what's this tap all about? the transfer alliance program

Well, according to my high school counselor, now bear with me as I was told about these programs four years ago. The UCs have made an alliance with certain Community Colleges to create a program that students may choose to take part in. And if you complete all the courses with a good grade standing, you will be offered "guaranteed admission."

I'm not sure if Privates all do the TAP thing, but I remember receiving pamphlets in my rejection letters from the UC's.

They usually also give you a list of the colleges participating in the TAP program.

Eh. Well the above is kinda right.

TAP, specifically, is a UC agreement. UCLA and Cal (not sure about others) each have their own TAP contracts that outline what they expect from a CCCs honors program. If the school meets these guidelines, they can begin to negotiate a TAP contract.

Other UCs have different contracts (Tag for SD, TAA for Davis) with different specifications that are specific to their school only.

Most honors programs have agreements with several schools. For example, my school has an agreement with UCLA for TAP, UCSC, and UCI (and other local Cal states and privates).

For some of these agreements (TAP included), you must be certified by your school's honors program to have access. For others (Davis and Santa Barbara, for example i think), you can sign through your school's guidance office without being in Honors.

Also, each school can have several agreements. For instance, Berkely has several depending on the criteria the school needs to meet. The transfer schools can revoke a CCCs agreement after the terms of the contract are over if they don't feel that the school is meeting its criteria well enough. This means that CCCs are reviewed by their partner schools every couple of years.

As far as privates go, certain schools may have agreements (similar to TAP) with their local CCCs. It all kind of depends on how active the Honors Director is at the CCC and how hard they pull for the contracts.

***oh and the guarenteed admission thing isnt always true. Transfer agreements may be very helpful, but for certain schools (LA and Berkeley specifically), nothing is guarenteed.
