Does anyone know anything about this program? Any opinions from students who went last year? I can pretty much guess what it is but if anyone had details that would be great. Also, who exactly got invited to this?

bump…

HI!
I got an invite…
I’ve been really curious as to what people’s opinions are on
this whole “likely letter” thing.

I got an invite to the Tarheel Shadow thing with a letter.

But the thing about this invite is…
if I go on January 28th and find out that I was deferred
or rejected, then what was the point of my day???

:(.
no definite answers to my questions there have been.

at the end it says: log in to MyUNC for a personal invitation to “Tar Heel Shadow”. I don’t think that this is just a regular application received letter, but I’m not sure it is the same thing as the “you should go to the shadow program”. Any ideas?

On another note, if you did get the actual shadow invitation letter, the chance of you getting in is like 99.9%, so you might as well go to see if you want to go to UNC.

Aight, turns out that I did get invited to the program.

As you can view under you MyUNC event portal, the shadow day is described as follows:

“Come spend the day with a current Carolina student attending classes, meeting professors and eating in the dining hall. You can find out about the amazing opprotunities available to Carolina students. You will have the opportunity to meet a Carolina student and attend classes, meet professors and sample some of the amazing opportunities available to Carolina students.”

Like I said before, I’ve heard that if you get this letter, you probably will get into UNC. Additionally, I think that the purpose of the program is simply to see whether or not you like UNC.

Personally, since I already took a tour of campus and used to live right off Franklyn St., I don’t think that I’ll go. The catch of this is though, that it might make your application look better if you actually go.

Well I dont think there is that much time to “make your application look better” based on the listed dates because the notification is on the 30th, and on the likely letter, it just gives a small summary of the program.

I’m going tomorrow!! Anybody else goin’?

I’ll be going later on this week and would love any feedback from you guys who are attending today. Thanks!

So, basically Tar Heel Shadow is a chance for you to attend classes with some college students. The ambassadors line up in front of the prospective students and tell a little about themselves, including major and which classes they are going to. The students pick which ambassadors to go with, go to classes, a longer tour if desired, and a free lunch in the dining halls.

did you have a good time? packerfan

I had a good time because I got a free lunch and I enjoy showing people around. I was one of the ambassadors though. Wait for tarheelbound2010 to give you a more relevant answer.

^^^What do you think we should bring with us?

I had a GREAT time today…It was very laid back…we listened to an ambassadors schedule and chose the one that interested us most. But with my ambassador, he allowed to sit in on ANY class we wanted to,so even though he didnt have an 8am class, he let us choose a class to sit in on. It was fun, got to see all the labs and facilities! But if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!

Just bring like a book bag or something so you’ll blend in, but if you dont bring one, it’s not a big deal. Other than that, you dont need anything, unless you want to take notes or something.

I would take something that you could doodle on just to keep your entertained in case you do get bored in class. I know that some people were bored in their classes.

AH! Thanks so much for all of your responses!
I’m going on Thursday the 28th and I’m really excited.
:D

me too! :)

Im going on the 28th as well. Im kind of nervous, I dont want to not like what I experience because UNC is my first choice. But I will make the best of my experience.

^^^^ i dont think you have to worry about not liking it!!! UNC’s Great and the Shadow Program only made UNC Better in my opinion!!!

Again, if you’re invited to the Shadow program, don’t worry about your acceptance!

I’ve hosted and it’s a great time.
