target/reach??

college gpa 3.72
hs gpa 3.0 (coming from an excellent hs) -prez of spanish club, model un, orchestra, involved in chorus and community service
sats pretty low 1030 (some transfers sats ARE optional)

indian american, prez. of unicef club, swimming, choir, community service
i will study abroad this fall at mcgill university (canada)

bu? wellesley? american? gw? (<--what are my chances for those?/what do you all recc. for transfers?)

im interested in IR (int. relations)

is that old SAT? if it is, you should retake...if it's new SAT then you should REALLY retake. you're lucky you are indian american. i have some but not enough to call myself an indian american. that should really help you.

it's the old sat.

thanks.

I'm not sure if you'll need to retake the SAT for Wellesley, but for BU and American, I wouldn't think it's necessary. Probably not for GW either, but I'm not sure.

i disagree BUs average SAT of entering freshman was around 1350 and I was under the impression that more is usually expected from transfers...i'd take again but it's up to you.

Colleges rarely expect more of you (in terms of SAT scores) when applying as a transfer. I got into BU as a junior transfer with SATs not much higher than secretsilver's.

:) then i am not stressing as much. what kind of GPA did you have/ECs/courseload? I'm wanting to make sure BU is a safety.

In fact, most of the colleges I got into as a transfer had average SAT scores for freshmen in the 1300-1400 range, and I was no where near that.

I have a 3.95 from a third tier, public school. Easy courseload (mostly intro classes), but I made sure to get my General Ed. requirements out of the way. Not a whole lot in terms of ECs in college. Wrote for the school paper, volunteered a lot during the summer.

thanks guys.

yeah, american doesn't want sats, so hopefulyl i'll be safe.

spring transfers are obviously harder to get into, but do u think i should go w/ it, esp. for those who do NOT want sats?

i did a Lot of ecs and i have quite a bit of community service going.

Give it a try. And if you don't get into any schools for spring, you can always give it another shot for the fall.

I believe the best IR programs are offered by JHU, Tufts, and Georgetown. I could be wrong, though.

oh man, those are definitely reach schools for me and tufts and gu for sure ONLY accept fall transfers

so ill give it a try to the 4 i mentioned and see how it goes

thanks all.

just curious...which schools did you (kjspice) get into? and how much higher were your sats?

is it stupid to apply for spring to american or bu and then again for the fall to somewhere else (say wellesley or tufts?)

Well actually, I re-took my SATs last October. The first time I took them, as a senior in hs, my SATs were lower than yours (a 1020). On the new SAT I had M-520 CR-570 and W-600. So a little higher, not enough to make a difference, I believe. I ended up getting into BU, Brandeis, UMass, and UNC.
