Just curious. . . .I have a friend that's attending in the fall, and he's worried that some of his classes will have teaching assistants presenting a lot of material.

Does Harvard set standards on how much the professors have to teach?

Like I know at Cornell, professors are required to teach the course, and TAs just review the material in sections. Are there similar regulation at Harvard?

Yes, except for intro math and languages. But your friend will soon learn that whether someone's a prof or a TA has nothing to do with their teaching skill....

Phoenixy's right on the money on both points. If your TF doesn't impress you in the first section, switch sections. It's usually easy enough to do.

Shouldn't this be something you think about BEFORE sending in your deposit check? I mean, it's no big secret that Harvard, like virtually all research universities, uses TAs.
