I want to read (manly) Roamorse's essays too! Somehow, I never got a chance to. :-( Grace me with your literary honor, roam!

Quick question: I'm still in the midst of writing my essays; however, my friend and I are disagreeing on precisely what essay #1 is asking for.

It explicitly requests that the response not be a book report or plot summary. However, is it asking for a literary analysis type of paper? As in, highlighting all literary devices (think AP Eng Lang) such as hyperbole, tone, mood, metaphors, etc.

Or is it asking you to write about the book (not summarizing it) but still using citations to further your point?

britnay - they want an analytical paper on a book/poem you read, meaning just that: don't merely summarize the plot or give a shallow generalization over what the book was about. pick an argument and stick with it, using citations to prove your point. i don't think you need to pick out all the rhetorical devices (haha, yes, aplang!), but you certainly can mention them, if you wish.

and lmao, thanks guys, but what's with all this talk about my essays? it started out with one person pm'ing me about them and then somehow escaladed from there. i loved all of the essays i read from people who emailed me theirs. i'm humbled, i must say.

good luck online applicants, you still have a couple of hours left!!!

p.s. thanks for the parenthetical comment, yanners. way to further the ambiguity of my gender on this forum. LOL

Has anybody recieved mine yet? I sent them out to a few but no one responded.

Roamorse, you must give me yours. If they're this good, I bet I could learn a thing or two from you. =D

Hmmm iriseyes...I replied to your email! Did you not get it?? I haven't read them yet, but will get around to them when I can.

I didn't get it. T_T

Wait, let me check again. Eeeehhh.....no. Are you Muthu?

What have been the topics you all covered in Essay #2?

I covered the fallacy of geisha as prostitutes, historically and economically.

But in very dumbed-down terms; no one wants to read about things like the embroidery on a maiko's collar vs. the gold leaf on a tayuu's headdresses... >_>;;

I'm a bit of a geisha nerd, have been since I was 12.

I talked about the extreme partisanship that runs throughout all levels of our government today, what could happen if it continues, and what steps the voters can take to change it.

Most people prooooobably find that boring, but it was fun. And plus, maybe it'll score me some points for Cornell I!

I talked about the hypocrisy of charity. Arghhhh I'm stuck on my ranking explanations lol. Everything I say just sounds like it came from the description on the website.

I wrote about the problem of children losing their creativity as they grow up. I kinda tied it in with my love of all things artsy/photography related.

i talked about the meaning of life. no seriously. lol

if anyone wants some essays read you can send them to whatismouse@gmail.com and i can send some back if youd like.

oh, and i hope that if i do get to the interview stage that they do not choose solely based on social fluency. discrimination against social ineptness is uncool!

Wow, your essay #2s just merely cement the fact that I think mine suck.

cdon--
yes!
forensics is my LIFE

Oh man. A little over 8 hours left!

Yikes.

I talked about a process I call normalization, which I ended up defining as society's constant forcing us to conform to ideas through everything from the way we grow into constructed identities to the way we communicate.

Blame policy debate for planting these seeds of rebellion in my head. =)

ah, those sound like very interesting issue essays! mine was very narrow and not broad-based at all. don't worry britnay! you guys will all be able to pull through.

why do i have to get sick on a friday. ugh. ><
