whatever happened to asking for your "friend".

and why would you send in a full transcript when you're applying in january?

whatever happened to asking for your "friend".

and why would you send in a full transcript when you're applying in january?

TASP does require a "full" transcript as they want an official one from your school which is sent out from your school and that includes all your grades from freshman year but not necessarily your first semester junior grades depending on the school.

I don't think that DB from Cornell TASP did so well in school. He was too smart for all of his subjects anyway. But he was definitely one of the most brilliant, insightful, and well-read people at TASP.

Thanks for being understanding Dandelion :-)

p.s. What a small world.

for the second part of the literary analysis prompt (..and by what means does it achieve them?), how do we go about identifying the means a particular piece of literature uses to achieve its goals? should we use literary devices? or what?

for the literary analysis, can a previous TASPer pm me an example as well? i just want to get a feel of the writing level/type of insights we should be making. don'y worry, i have already read my book/ planned things out

are you allowed to send a resume in addition to the app?

there's no reason to.

it's all about the essays. seriously, i could say that a million more times. essays essays essays.

Wait did you say Essays?!?!?! Gasp

past taspers - what was the hardest interview question you were asked?

ScrewedHopeful: I e-mailed TASP and asked them about the transcript thing and they said that you can send just your 1st semester junior grades. They basically want anything you can send in, it justs has to be an official school document.

how are you guys doing with your essays?

i haven't started mine xD but i might use one that i wrote before for school and modify it for the conflict essay.

I haven't started mine either, but I'm used to procrastinating so i'm not too fussed about that :P. I also need to get a rec and the transcript.. but unfortunately, the teacher I want to ask is out of town for the next few weeks, which makes it even more rushed and last minute :is stressed:

I'm really enjoying the prospect of writing these essays, especially the lit analysis (I LOVE analyzing texts :D). But at the same time, I can't help feeling depressed by the tiny, infentisimal (sp?) chance of my acceptance, or even getting an interview. So basically every time I start thinking about what I'm going to write.. a nagging voice tells me that I should employ my time elsewhere and actually be productive in the (many, many, many important) papers/tests/apps I NEED to get done in the next couple weeks, (i.e., not waste time on something that's not going to happen). Gah.. it's depressing :(

And just a question for previous TASP-ers, how many books did you have on your book list? I looove to read, but I don't want my list to look excessive (nor do I want it to look pithy if I cut it down though). Also, does it matter if your books are a mix of classics and modern fiction? I know it shouldn't... but I just want to make sure that not everyone's list is all Dostoyevsky/Joyce/etc. Thanks :)

what are you guys writing for the conflict essay? I think that might be my toughest one... I've never wrote something like that. :-/

hello, you beautiful people,

unefleursauvage, most of what i read on the outside-of-school portion of my list was modern stuff- everything is illuminated, the hours, that kind of stuff.

the entire list (i divided it into four sections- school books, non school fiction, non school poetry, and non school nonfiction) had about 40 books on it, i think. i'm not sure if it was everything i read over that year, just the stuff i could remember.

and A-san- the conflict essay was by far the hardest for me too!

hey vegangirl, congrats on your EA results! I saw them in the threads. I'm really happy for you. :)

Also, you said you listed "the hours" as in, how many hours you spent reading each book?

thanks vegangirl :) it's funny-- both the books you mentioned are on my reading list; jonathan safran foer and michael cunningham are my two favorite modern authors. and congrats as well on your ea result! (like a-san, i was reading the threads).

haha, that's funny! "the hours" is a book, lol. Sorry about that, ignore my second retarded comment. :P

How many books does everyone whose applying have listed for what they've read over the past year? For me [outside of schoolwork] this would be a very small number; though I could obviously "read" a great deal in the immediate future...
