Tasp 2007

AAAAAH! I'm SO happy right now! There is an interviewer (or possible interviewer I should say) nearby and so I can have a REAL FACE-TO-FACE CONVERSATION WITH A REAL TELLURIDE ASSICIATE! I am so excited I've lost my wits, not to mention the ability to use any form of punctuation other than a comma and an exclamation mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AH!

I would love some interview practice, not really to get ready for the interview but to discuss ideas! If you wouldn't mind just send me a PM. =)

Patiently waiting, anxiously anticipating, and blissfully celebrating!

EDIT: Too excited to maintain the conventions of spelling and grammar. Excuse my post for its lack of English merit.

TI: Our original list of CCErs had 40ish names on it who were applying (This was 2 months ago now)
Since notifications have been sent out a little less than half of that 40 has responded and they only make up a little more than half than those who have allegedly gotten interviews. So that means 11ish lurkers have come out now that they have gotten notifications.

But YES this is a very skewed population, and Im sure many people have come on here through searching for information so don't worry TASP 2007 wont be The Real World: College Confidential.

:)

Also congrats on the interview, Mr. I Have 99.99% chance of rejection :-P

i got an interview too. could someone please add my name to the list? i gotta run

..and do a large amount of homework.

Real World: College Confidential?

/shudders

corey: even a lot of the original list isn't cc'ers

i just googled tasp when i got the brochure instead of when i got the interview ;)

I made the mistake of reading my essays before I found out, that can turn anyone pessemistic.

hm...i feel left out on this board now. =( everyone else is so excited about their interview. Meanwhile I'm just sitting back watching everything go past me.

Good luck on your interviews everyone!

Does anyone know if from now on it's just the interviews that matter (as in they're grading the interview to see who's in/out) or do they use the interviews as a confirmation device (as in they already have an idea who's going to get in/out, but want to make sure their decision is correct), or do they take other the interview and the essays into consideration?

Good question Mintie...I was wondering about that too! Does anyone know??

Hmm. I want to say that the interviews are weighted more than the essays in the second round, considering they've already sifted through ~1000 applications and have chosen the top 150 or so...I can't say for sure, though I really hope that essays still play a major component in the final decision.

Sad to say, I'm not a very good conversationalist. Plus, I stutter sometimes, which is not a desirable trait in an interviewee. :(

Well obviously some had better essays or others. But the fact that you made it to the interview says a lot and everyone has a fair shot.
TASP is about the total package, and I know a lot of people who can write a perfect essay but cant even talk to an adult.
So just prepare yourself however you find it necessary and good luck. Just have fun with it. The total package=/= (doesn't equal) total perfectionist. These people are interviewing for the most prestigious humanities summer program they are gonna be able to weed out the fake ones. Notice how test scores aren't even a factor in admissions. TASP is creating an organic group not a bunch of perfect regurgitating freaks. Be Natural and Have Fun!

TRUTH IS nobody knows what they are looking for so there is no sense in trying to be something you aren't, chances are you have made it this far because you have that something in you. Plus dont worry if you stutter or use like, when talking about things that are passionate to you (As your essays topics obviously are) you will be surprised how much easier things are

Another question: does anyone know the general types of questions the interviewer's ask? I heard they talk about your essays and current events. Is that true?

And thanks for the prompt reply, I guess there's a reason why this thread's 200+ pages longer than most other summer program thread. :D

Haha NP, you will need to hear from a past TASPer for that question.

1 way to get into TASP: Don't be boring. This applies to the interview too. Yes, that means you. Yes, I'm sure you can find something interesting about yourself. Just think about it.

^ LOL, great advice. Still, I can't help but think of all the other excellent individuals that are being considered for acceptance. (And the CC pool alone is definitely a qualified one)

I got one.
Fastest mood swing in history.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha..CONGRATS!!! Our first international TASP interviewee.

Did they tell you wether you were going to get a personal interview or is it going to be over the phone?

Yeah, international!

How cool...I still haven't gotten my phone call or email yet...getting scared.

Hooray for internationals ? not that I believe in borders. I haven't received any official info regarding my interview other than an e-mail informing me that there is an interviewer in an American city just south of the border. I can't wait to receive the official TASP letter. I hope the mail-person doesn't fold it or anything, that letter is getting hugged (gently of course), then framed, then taken out for further hugging.
