Abby!! Gosh, Spain sounds absolutely incredible. I hope you're taking lots of pictures :).

So today in school, someone said something that totally made me think of TASP (then again, everything these days seems to remind me of it) and I got this really vague, dreamy half-smile on my face. Gah!! everytime I think of the possibility of TASP and all you guys, my heart does a little flutter.

As cool as that would be I think it wouls seriously take away from the experience, say if you already knew a quarter of your TASP from this board. Thank god I'm one of 3 applying to TASS.

iriseyes: Hopefully this makes you feel better: I have to take a 5+ hour train ride to get to my interviewing location. I'm just glad there's someone in Germany, even if they are on the opposite side of it.

Oh, and everybody's been talking about the silly mistakes they found in their essays, and for a couple of weeks I was freaked because I just COULDN'T FIND ANY. (Although there were definitely instances of bad syntax, I never made grammar or spelling mistakes.) I knew one had to be there!
I found it a couple of days ago...it's a factual error, although subject to argumentation, I suppose:
"Life appeared from nowhere, bubbling up from an organic stew millions of years ago."
I indirectly endorse the "organic soup" theory, but then say that life is millions of years old instead of billions. ARRRGGGGGGGGGHHH!
Luckily, my essay was about Tao and the manifestation of emptiness, not the origins of life, and I really only bring that up to make a comparison to the story of "Stone Soup" and introduce the concept of possibility as an unseen catalyst, but still...my interviewer works in a scientific field...

i got an interview too! just got my letter in the mail yesterday. i was wondering, what will the interview be like? (how long, what about, etc), and is there any way to prep?

You Cant prep.
It's 2-3 hours long with 3 representatives
and it will be the hardest thing you ever do in your life. A gauntlet of questions with the intent to crack you.

Past interviewees have had their interviews vary in length, on the letter I believe it says around 1 hour, however, people have been known to talk twice as long as this.
The interview questions stem from your essays and with intent of understanding more about you and how you think. (For TASP they are creating a group and don't only look at ppl as individuals they look about them within the context of the entire group dynamic, so this is why they want to find out how you tic)
As far as prep goes, just re read your essays maybe have a teacher discuss them with you. Also just brush up on current issues. they won't quiz you about whats going on in Kashmir, but be aware of whats going on. Especially anything that may be a tangent from your essays.

Good Luck!!!
Also be expecting a call/email from your interviewer soon, it should have more details and you guys will arrange a date
