But in any case, it depends on each individual TASP. Sometimes you get a seminar that bonds INCREDIBLY well and sometimes you get a seminar with some "bad seeds" that don't really mesh quite as well.

With the 30something people, it is still the TASP experience, just slightly different than having only one seminar. Individual people will always make a difference, though. I'm blabbering. Ignore me. XD

Hm...I never really thought about big v. small seminars before...to be honest, I think I'd probably like it either way. :)

So with all this talk of East of Eden, I'm guessing I should pick up a copy? It sounds interesting.

I need a new laptop. :( My parents were all yeah! about getting me a new one, and we were price-checking and computer-store-going and all of that, and then they just kinda...lost steam. :'(

I think this might be one of the most unfocused posts on this thread. Excuse me. I'll stop now. :D

There are so many summer programs at Cornell. I was wondering, Aida, if there any elitism among the TASP kids and the other programs at Cornell? Like, "We're better than you" and that kind of nonsense? I'm guessing not, but someone asked me about it today in school.

I'm actually really excited about my interview right now...

...and my butt hurts from softball yesterday. I'm a pitcher, and when you pitch softball, you basically...like, lunge? I'm big, so I use the momentum of dropping my height down to propel the ball, and I end up in a 90-degree left lunge. So anyway, yesterday I pitched about 70 balls, and my leg and bottom are kiiiiiilling me. I'm so relived that practice was canceled today, or I'd be in some serious trouble. =/

oh, iris, is your school not on spring break yet? I kind of know how you feel with the aching (even though i, on the other hand, am extremely sedentary). I went out with a bunch of friends over the weekend to play ultimate frisbee and soccer in the mud, and it was so much fun, though now my calves are still a bit in pain.

The elitism was also a question I was wondering about. It sounds like TASP is a place where most, if not all of the people are welcoming and nice, but I've gone to programs where there are a lot of factions and cliques. Has TASP ever been like that for the previous TASPers?

I absolutely hated East of Eden but Steinbeck is my least favorite author so that may explain it. Some of the chapters were pretty good, some were just okay, and then the detailed chapters just put me to sleep.

We never even met the other Cornell summer program kids. TASP is very...into itself. I DID meet a summer session girl after I got off from the plane, though. My cousin was also there taking Political Science or...something like that. International relations, perhaps? Whatever. We did get to meet during her free time and we just walked around CollegeTown for a while.

Wow. That sounds painful, Iris. >_< oof.

My Easter break is in a week. HUZZAH! I'm missing so much school, lmao. I didn't go to class on Friday because I was working on English Week for elementary school; I didn't go on Monday because I was out of town with a TASP friend; I didn't go today because there was a field trip I wasn't interested in; I'm going to skip from April 18th-April 20th 'cause I'll be at Swarthmore's Ride the Tide and stuff... I don't go to school on Friday because I'm doing comm.service out of town; this Thursday, I go out to give conferences at a nursing home-esque place. Monday, I go out to give dictionaries (maybe) to 4th graders at public schools... Etc, etc, etc. XD

My "best" friend apparently resents that? She was pretty hostile to me today. XD Amusing.

Anyway. UM. TASP was super welcoming for most of the 2006 TASPers, methinks. There are factions and cliques, mainly in the double seminars, but everyone pretty much gets along and doesn't mind spending time with people from other cliques.

Oh goodness, just reading all these posts reminds me of how much I want to go! Seriously, I'm going to have to block this website from my computer if I don't get in...it'll be too painful :p

Anyone else alternating between fear and excitement for their interviews? I know I am...

of course! i'm actually looking forward to mine, but granted, a little nervous as well. and however grueling and overwhelming they may be, the general consensus seems to be the interview can be enjoyable if you let it. so i have every intention of doing the best i can without taking myself too seriously/stressing too much about it.

OH NO POST 666! Makes Exorcism noises

IM SO EXCITED FOR MY INTERVIEW!!! There is just no date set yet :-/

"We got along with pretty much everyone, though. shrug" ... Lol Aida shouldn't that shrug be a cough JP JP JP

Wow in the excitement of you becoming an interviewer Aida I forgot to tell you last night I'm going to be an interviewer too....
All day Monday I get to do interviews for a new Guidance Councilor at the school. I'm making a list of possible questions and I realized how evil you can be as an interviewer. Ominous laugh

How was your day off today? Also, what kind of school takes a day long field trip to a college thats only good in one concentration... Did a lot of ppl not go?

I agree. I'm kind of excited as well to hear what they're going to say about my essays...I mean, it's my writing, but they'll be coming up with ideas/arguments/etc I've never thought of, which is pretty neat.

Heeeey, we did get along with pretty much everyone! :P Shaddap.

LOL! They are getting students to interview GC's?! Shouldn't the administration do that or something? Weird. But congrats. ^^

My day off was quite fine. I was freaking pooped, so I slept in, then worked on some financial aid messes I had to correct, and then I was off to tutor. Now, I'm working on stuff...blah.

It's not only good in that, but it's just better than the public universities in Communications. They wanted to give us a perspective on both public and private ones. There have been two field trips already; one to each. Everyone went, I think?

GASP Karen you don't like East of Eden? is shocked.

I don't know if I can be friends with you. I mean, CATHY THE FREAK? <- how can you not like that? Haha. She's funny. Scary, but funny.

TASP <3 I just had to revive the love. Even though people here probably OD on TASP love already.

Phillips Evans Scholars, Aida? I want that to be me in a year...but I know it won't happen :( I...don't do anything in school, ha ha. Well I mean I do...but yeah, there are too many scary people out there, why would they possibly want me?

Haha I wish. I, unfortunately, hardly do anything at school. I go to school and I come home. Actually, I guess I do have track. But no, NOTHING. I only do things I like :( I wish I weren't so picky :P If only silly people who ODed on extracurriculars didn't exist, then maybe I'd have a chance!

I want a full rideeee somewhere. But I don't think I could get one anywhere I wanted to go... Mon dieu, c'est terrible!

No thats a good thing.
Im not going to preach since you go to MV Tako but all those ppl who OD on extracurriculars pi5s me off. Do what your passionate about. You dont need Interact, Key and CSF on your resume to be successful or regarded as a good student.
