Tasp 2007

So in general, if you think you didn't have a great interview, you still might have a chance of getting in....? ahhh..

lol, stop the speculation, it'll do no good.

they should base decisions on music taste.

you're in if you like radiohead and wilco; out if you like ciara.

I don't know what any of those are ^^

I am so out of it these days...

I finished my editor app except for the editing of one story which shouldn't take that long...you know, only spent 6 hours on it (not including discussing it with my friend...that has yet to come) :D

Nobody else is going to spend HALF as long. Haha. Dork that I am.

I love the song "Snow (Hey-Oh)" by Red Hot Chili Peppers. It is definitely MY song right now. Listen to 104.9 quick! (for those bay area-ers :D)

woo rhcp

and yeah i know what you mean, my dad is EXACTLY like that
i've gotten to the point where i just don't talk to him about school or anything

Haha, man, I loved my interview. I was accused of sophistry, told that my ECs were pursuits that made me inauthentic intellectually and emotionally, forced to go on the defense against pretty brutal attacks on the legal system's right to ban gay marriage. I actually made the mistake at one point of saying the federal government should have the right to prosecuted unprotected sodomy for the purpose of preserving the public's health.

I had a lot of fun, it's situations like these that make me think. And, of course, after the interview you think of so many other things you could have said that would have been much more applicable, but hey. Here's to waiting. =)

^^ haha was debate one of those ECs?

Yeah, the other was drama. I'm a multi-faced lying member of the Ivory Tower! :D

^ LOL, wow... hearing these interview stories isn't making me feel any better. >_<

What kinds of question did they ask you arthurbulla?

Honestly, they started the conversation asking about policy debate (which I had listed on my app) and went from there, going step by step into other topics. I think the only time they made a complete jump was to ask about illegal immigration (?) and then about communal living. I'm almost positive everyone's interview is a different experience, though, so not really much I can help ya with there. =)

^ lol, that's why I'm really nervous about mine. I know there's almost no way to prepare for it but at the same time I feel like I should be doing SOMETHING (except for reading essays).

Good job for liking your interview, by the way, even though it seemed to have been rather brutal. :D

for me, the questions were simple. they didn't require you to know some obscure piece of information or anything. they were fairly easy to understand. but coming up with a good answer in a few seconds was the hard part. you really need to know the rationale behind every assumption you make in your essays. AND, more importantly, you need to know how those assumptions interact with all your other essays.

For me, although the starting off point of my interview may be somewhat related to my seminar choice, and VERY distantly related to my analysis, I felt that the bulk of my interview (unfortunately) did NOT revolve much around those essays. Perhaps that's because my interviewer didn't know much about my "topic of interest" or the "work" I was analyzing, for that matter. In any case, I honestly have NO CLUE how badly(/well?) I did. Does anyone feel the same way?...at least remotely? ^_^

I have decided to stop reading these boards between now and my interview.

Everyone here is totally kick butt... But all I see is myself getting worked up into a tizzy over other peoples interviews. I'm going to stick to my plan and not try to anticipate what my interview is going to be like based on other people's experiences. I just see myself crashing and burning if that is the case.

I got my game face on.

Talk to you all Thursday night :D

I totally agree, I don't think you can predict what your interview will be like based on others' experiences. They'll probably pick a point they can elaborate on the most or can challenge you on the most easily and go from there. In my case, one of my interviewers was a former debater, so he knew the subject we started on well. It really depends. =)

Hey i'm new to CC and i just had my interview Friday. I've been reading u guy's posts for a few days now (creepy i know) and i'm wondering who ranked 1. UT AUSTIN and 2. CORNELL I on their last 'essay'? I'm kind of regretting not changing the order so the WASHU is 2nd when offered the chance at my interview, so i'm thinking about emailing my person.. any of you guys want to go to UT or CORN I??

I'm also new to CC and had been reading the posts on the days leading up to my interview, which totally freaked me out but were also helpful as I then knew what to expect coming into the interview. I thought mine went well. My interviewer started with extracurriculars and then we just went through each essay and occasionally went off on some tangents. But now the waiting is the worst part....May is sooo far away!

mine were: 1(s). cornell II & umich, 2. washu, 3. UT, and 4. cornell I

seemed to be in complete opposite of the majority. good job to you guys who already have it! i think i may win the prize on CC for having the latest interview date (the 15th! still two weeks to go...).

Yay! And I got supah scholarships at both Brown and UChi. I have no idea about Swat yet, 'cause I still need to send in some info. >_< But still. Full tuition at UChicago (College Honors Scholar) and the Sidney E. Franks Scholarship at Brown, plus the Pell Grant/SEOG/etc crap from the good ol' government, and some other stuff.

I just had to share my joy. XD I'm so excitedededed.

Well, Tako, good luck. If you turn into me, you'll be a pretty foine lady. ;P

If you regret your seminar choices, feel free to email your interviewer. I'm sure they could include your change in their report. In fact, your interviewers are SUPPOSED to ask if you want to change 'em. :)

And good luck, Corey. I'll be AIMstalking you now.

More, anyway.

GOOD JOB AIDA, and GOOD LUCK COREY.

I'm almost glad decisions are so far away....it'll give me time to get them off my mind and focus on SAT II prep. =/

Speaking of which, now that TASP decisions are completely out of my hands, I'm going to try to limit how often I come here. Gotta get that homework done...

I ranked my first choice as UT Austin. For the sake of seeing what programs are the most competitive, lets see who applied to what.

First Choice:
UT Austin: 2
Cornell I: 1
Cornell 2:
Wash U:
Michigan: 1
