you guys, we're already on the 100th page........... o_O i wonder how long this thread is gonna go up 'til. hahahaha, just wait until early march/mid may.... yikes.

it seems like everyone is done writing his or her essays.

list of people who are NOT done (or anywhere near done):

ack. okay, so I'm new to the thread/cc, been lurking for a while, but I CAN'T choose which issue essay to send in. I wrote three, thinking that it would be obvious after writing them which one would be better to send, but I have absolutely NO idea. Anyone feel like offering a little bit of advice?

General gist:

Teenage Sexuality: some concentration on gender inequality, with a more broad focus on whether or not the changing sexuality of todays teenagers is dangerous/unhealthy when compared with the past. (no particular support in the rest of app)

Cowboys: the continued appeal of cowboys/the American West, and the interpretation of that in the media/literature/movies vs. the true hardships of the cowboy lifestyle (talk about my work on ranches/my love of the cowboy lifestyle in other essays)

Young Adult Lit: the marginalization of titles written for young adults, and the stigma attached to those titles. (talk about my ambitions for publication/booklist full of young adult titles that might need a ltitle bit of explanation)

So...any thoughts? And just for the record I'm also (clearly) far from being finished.

I don't want to perpetuate thoughts of TASP... just sent in my application today, now I am researching short-term cryogenics so mid-March can come FASTER. I applied with Cornell II in mind (the reading list got me). Anybody want to share essays? Mine will be on my blog at some point, I'm sure:
http://pushtheword.blogspot.com
What are everyone's main academic interests (especially those of you who applied to Cornell II)?
I'll start: Art and Memory, Avant-Garde Music, Biochemistry, Evolutionary Linguistics, Comparative Literature, Near Eastern Studies and
SOCIALISM AUUGH I'm a dirty RED. (Does that make me rusted?)
If anyone would like to see the space, one of my songs now graces the profile of the honorable Aida.
Now to wikipedia (is that an acceptable verb yet?) Suspended Animation...

hmm, 1. is the most familiar to me, seems like something i would write, 2. seems really cool, especially since you worked on ranches, and 3. seems interesting as well, and the most original out of the three.

sorry, i can't really judge by the explanations alone. i'd offer to read them (and you wrote three for one essay? crazy!), but i strong advise not to send essays via CC, especially since you don't know where your essay is going and where it might end up. so it applies towards me as well! (my issue essay is in shambles right now, if that makes you feel any better...)

and sidjenks, i hope you're applying online... because otherwise tomorrow is going to suck.

Flippy... Cowboys <--thats original
Haha far from finished. You wrote 3 count em' 3 essays for one prompt. Thats hXc

Note I didnt realize there were still a stigma attached to Cowboys, very enlightening if you wrote it well. Also I like that idea because it is an issue but it directly relates to you. This normally creates a more passionate piece.

Good Luck To all yall that aren't finished. Sidjenks 1 essay is chill. actually super chill.

Lankydenny, you sound cool. haha. Anyway, I think the teenage sexuality one sounds most interesting, but the cowboy one has originality. But the teenage lit one sounds nice too! I don't know...

SOOO my field trip ended up going until now. :( But I think I know my topic for the issues essay. Conflict, on the other hand, I still have no idea :/

Wow, I sound just a little pretentious. American West is fascinating, I think it could be a great essay. p45510n, where's your blog? O Lord. Two posts... I am no longer a lurker. I'm entrenched, baby!
Who else ranked Cornell II as #1?

PS - my "complicated stuff" just sounds that way. I am no expert in those fields, but they are my interests of the week.

PPS - what's everyone reading these days? I'm about to finish Against the Day.

I ranked Cornell II last...lots of people did, actually.

Haha...there was a period of time when we were all really into organizing who ranked which program where...it's bound to be somwhere in the past...50 pages?? Happy searching!

actually, i'm really torn between cornell II and michigan. i'd probably have more to contribute at michigan and would feel more comfortable with the topics being discussed, but the minute i read cornell ii, i fell in love with it. my teacher was exclaiming about how the seminar is perfect for me and is basing her entire rec about how much i would love cornell ii.

i don't remember everyone else's preferences. but cornell i was getting all the love, and not so much st. louis.
