Tasp 2007

^ Yes, exactly. I've never really interacted closely with many smart young people.

CuddlySheep, I think your best bet is to e-mail Ellen Baer at the Telluride office and explain your situation. They seem to have been pretty understanding with other applicants who were running into roadblocks so I'm sure you won't encounter any HUGE problems.

I sent in the online forms with my application because I heard that whether or not you have the proffessional folder makes no difference to actual admissions. I hope what I heard was true!

And now I'm off to a council meeting, then tomorrow I have finals in AP U. S., AP Calc, and AP Stats. Oy, I need to get going. And again, CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE!

Thanks, iriseyes. I'm breathing again. :)
Good luck to everybody!!! I hope you all get in. I'll honestly be thrilled if I'm called for the interview.

Iriseyes, your essays sound super interesting. Go, Cornell II! :D

TAKO! I THOUGHT YOU WERE A GUY! dies

Excerpts from my LJ, from 2006:

January 22: "P.S. - I have a TON of essays to do. Am I doing them? Ehhh, sort of. [I'm sabotaging myself, this is insane. Jeez.]"
April 1st: "My TASP essay is due tomorrow, before 12 AM. I still haven't done it. I SERIOUSLY don't want to do it. Ugh" - (the critnal! XD)

Story behind my critnal: I never sent it in for reasons that shall remain uber secret. cue the suspense moozik However, they gave me an interview and I sent it in a few days before that. ^^

The point of having three of everything is that they distribute those packets to three individuals who will then review your apps.

Iris, the PSAT score thing is done by region, so if you live in a "smart" region, you will have a score higher than that of other prospective TASPers that got mailed an application in ANOTHER region. Personally, my score was in the 98th or 99th percentile and it was only 207, but I still got an app in the mail because the PR region is not known for acing the PSAT, lol. I did foine on my English sections, but I got a 60 in math, lol. XD

I FINALLY MAILED IN THE SCHOLASTIC AWARDS APPLICATIONS!! BWAHAHAHAHAHA, SUCCESS! Now, to wait for decisions.

Seriously, oh jeez, financial aid can KISS MY BUTT. Filling out these damn forms is such a pain!!! weeps a little I don't want to listen to more crap about taxes and deductions and assets and contributions! x.x

Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS to those of you who sent in your shiznat already. ^_^

Iriseyes:: I actually thought about the temperature when ranking. Then figured it wouldn't matter anyways.

Lob:: I believe you have me mistaken for someone else. I don't believe anyone has READ my essays (not here at least.) If anyone would like to, I'd be more than happy to share them...so long as the feedback isn't TOO harsh.

Jeez louise, I was reading through the RSI thread and the credentials of those kids scare me. My only truly unique "skill" is that I'm the youngest professional jeweler in New York, and how attractive is that when compared to the math awards coming out these kids' ears? You all are so accomplished. >_>;;

Bleh, I hope what everyone says is true, and that the essays are roughly 90% of the impression you make.

Muse: I go to boarding school in Connecticut, as do all the smart people, so I'm at a big disadvantage for the national merit awards.

just got it in. the post office is five mins drive away. i left at 6 56. it was close. as soon as we got in she was like "you're the last im taking". a guy came in not even 20 seconds after and was denied, so i made it just by seconds. Procrastinator to the extreme. All of my other essays are really strong, but the analysis (1st) essay wasn't. I finished it at 6 53 and ran my usb over to the printer to get it printed.

sucked.

and me and my mom were bickering especially when the traffic light was orange before we got to the post office and she stopped (crazy, i know, just nuts).

But, except for that first essay which wasn't terribly strong (but not terribly bad either), I feel good.

Was this the right way to assemble it:
original App page w pic, then other originalapp page, then 6 essays (all that i just mentioned paperclipped together), then rec and transcript, then 2 photocopies of the same order as the first batch paperclipped?

Honestly, for such detailed instructions on how to assemble the application, I was so confused that I gave up and did it how I wanted. I paperclipped the main copy of the app and essays together, with the second page (with the photo) on top. I then paperclipped the two copies of everything and stacked them behind the original. I put the three sealed envelopes containing my two transcripts (at a new school this year) and reccomendation on top and slid the whole thing into a manilla envelope. No cover letter, no post-its, nothing. I was so frazzled by this point that I just wanted to watch the office ladies postmark it, and then go to sleep. (Not an option because I have a calc test tomorrow.)

Oh, and here's a joyful thought: I have managed to get my reading score on the SAT up to a 800, but the math? It went down to 590 THE WEEK BEFORE THE TEST. Ooooooh dear.

they send the applications haphazardly to ensure geographic distribution and to encourage more people to apply. don't worry about it.

and iris, i love cornell ii, too! i had a three way tie between michigan, cornell ii, and washu but ended up putting michigan and cornell ii as my first choices. i wouldn't mind going to any of the seminars, but given my lack of political knowledge whatsoever, i'd be the dumbest one at cornell i, lmao. that's so cool that you're a professional jeweler!! i personally think it's more impressive than any math award... but i may be biased since i hate math. lol.

thanks ink! i loved your essays.

and that sounds about right, krelian. i keep forgetting people are using the app from the website and i get confused. xD

i don't mind sharing essays, either, billy_liar. if you guys want to exchange essays for fun, send me a pm (or just email me if you know my email). i finally cleaned out my inbox! lmao, after all those requests for ryan's essays.

RSI? pshhhhh

roflmao. You guys and your assembly issues, shakes head.

Wow. Saved by the bell, K! Well, not literally, but you get what I mean.

MAN, what the hull, it's only 8:35 and I'm freaking sleepy!!

P.S. - I thought DirectorsCut was a girl. God. CC is making me bad at recognizing the sex of the people I talk to, or just confusing the crap out of me in general. xD

Good, someone agrees. >_>;;

AND I WANT TO READ YOUR ESSAYS, EVERYONE! Email me! Send me the cool stuff (in other words, screw the critnals, lol).

gozni38@hotmail.com

woot woot

iris what boarding school you go too?

haha you are obviously TASP status with those SATs. No RSI there.

Also sick on the jeweler side. Are we talking like rocks, diamonds, beads, clay, rings, bronze caster. Hmm...
I saw the coolest necklace the other day it was sort of illegal paraphernalia tho :-/

Muse: Mine? I remember reading a couple weeks ago something about you being a factota. Is this true? =O

Red: I'm up at Westover, all girls yo! I finished my degree (certification) in wax casting, so we're talking lost wax, carving, gravity casting, silver/gold/bronze and some stones. I stay away from diamonds, what a pain to set.

Aida I have reservations about sending my essays to you as i feel that i would be such a hypocrite after our long ass discussions about that sort of stuff. Hmm but you are my hero and I want to send something to you. Hmm **** that.

Will do :-P

God my emotions are whack

THAT IS SOOOO COOL! I'm jealous!! I play the oboe/English horn! And I thought I was unique! Lawl!

whoa. that's so cool.

hahahaahha, aida. for the longest time, half the people on this thread thought i was a guy...

and somebody said "roamorse = manliest man out there." i forget who, but lmao.

Well, I have a lot of homework to do. I'm going to bounce for the night. Again, congratulations to everyone!

I like how you actualy did 2 of my 4 guesses :-P

Wax casting... Hmmm

They got that stuff for you at school. Or you run an illegal operation
