well, keep in mind that everything you put on your booklist is fair game for the interview, if you get one. if it so happens that your interviewer wants to discuss the book with you, you should have a good idea what it's about and have something intelligent to say.

Oh and also would someone mind sending me what their formatting looks like for the booklist?

and whatismouse, all of mine (besides the critnal) were written informally and very stream-of-consciousnessy, if that helps. i'm not sure what you meant by creativity turning into stupidity.

zachsta: mine was just a list of books i read, with the authors next to it. it was about a page long. there is no real format, just present it in a easy-to-read manner.

an entire page?! how can you read that many books in one year?

if i live in the central time zone, will applications be accepted online till 11:59 PM on the 26th?

i called and she said midnight pst...

haha yes! i get to work on my essays till 2 am!!

zachsta - you're positive about that?

ooh east coast got till 3am. (Have fun with that)

Also Zachsta I would give up now. You didn't read a page of books. You fail....

:-P

some were for school, some were "filler reads", i.e. "freakonomics". i had a hard time trying to think up of all the books i read in the past year and to figure out when the hell i actually read the book to make sure if fit into the timeframe, but then i realized that as long as it signifies my interest and i can have a meaningful discussion about it, it's fine. i left out some books i half-heartedly read for school and some that left no impressions.

haha, alright...

yeah thats what she said on the phone. midnight pst

Lol. For a second I thought you said that she said. For you to give up now.

Gah I'm delusional right now.

Gonna go to sleep WOAH 8pm!!!! OMFG what is this. And I start school at 8:50 2mrw. Gonna be a hearty night.

:D (don't worry i will probably be back at some rouge hour of the night because I cant sleep that long)

Good Luck Onliners!

Also What is this talk about being anti-Asian boys.... I love you Justin!!!!! :-P

Peace.

sorry for the fusion confusion toastwomble, but I see someone has already fixed it. And, I posted my rankings a while back but I've changed my mind so here is my new first choice:

does anyone else think that 'in the ocean' song by blue october is insanely catchy?

uhmm what i meant by stupidity was a radical extrapolation of creativity. and by that i mean what i am currently writing about: the meaning of life written entirely in the quotes of others. it actually is quite a difficult art to compile quotations that flow together. i showed it to a friend as if it was an essay i had written, and he thought it was really good.

Here's what we have so far:

Cornell I: 5.5
Cornell II: 3.5
WUSTL: 4
Mich: 1
Texas: 1

My favorites are apparently everybody's least favorites, haha :)

I'm pretty sure the UT one will end up being one of the most popular, given the appeal of its topic to math/science people who are interested in humanities.

Cornell II has exploded in popularity; I thought it would be a relatively obscure seminar.

For the UM seminar, it states "Readings will include selections from Langston Hughes, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Jacobs, W.E.B. DuBois, and Toni Morrison, as well as the novels If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin and Mona in the Promised Land by Gish Jen." It seems to me that the readings involve primarily African American authors, which is not a bad thing, but if the seminar is titled "Race, Space, and the American Self," how come they do not include more writings from caucasians of european immigranst, latin americans, southeastern asians, africans, middle easterns, etc?
