TASP 2009 Application Thread

I thought I should start an app thread already since people have begun to work on the applications (and I just got mine today! woo!). You can ask or answer questions here, discussions, basically anything.

When I saw the 6 essays, I thought it was the biggest joke ever......6?!
I know only 4 of them are legitimate essays but still...=(
Ah well.

Why are you complaining!?!? 4 essays: 4 opportunities to prove yourself!

Well I guess I'm complaining...haha yeah you could look at it that way but 4 is still a lot, and I feel like 2 would be enough. Hmm I have general ideas of what I'm going to write and such, but the problem is I don't have time to write it. I like writing but 6 outstanding app essays in 2 weeks (so I can study for finals later during vaca) is a bit much ya see....

That's why you do them now, sit on 'em for a week, then come back to it. Either way you won't get TASP out of your mind until you've done so!

Lol that is true. Hmmm. I'd be pretty excited if I got in. Have you started yours already? I did the Part II lol, which required just SO much brain power.

Yeah! I did the essay about something we feel strongly about and the literary analysis!

Ah, that's what we are doing in English class. I think I might just copy-paste one. Mmmmm. I like.

Anyone else other than just Obstinate and me? Hahaha

Trust me, six essays is nothing compared to actually being at TASP, having NO experience with formal research papers, and attempting a ten-page paper in a week (and by "a week," I mean "two frenzied nights in the library").

Oh dear....ahhh that's great hahaha. I actually like writing, a lot. But but but but there's school on top of that, and it's my only problem. Oh well I'll work around it haha. Do people usually take laptops though?

I took a laptop, but I hardly used it. You'll be staying at a university; there are public computers in the houses and computer labs all over the place. Though if you don't have a laptop, you will definitely want a flash drive. V. useful.

hm, I'm doing their online application, which I supposed would be more convenient for both myself and TASP.

I suspect I'm waaay over thinking these essays, because I'm analyzing what type of person I am projecting myself to be if I were to write about different topics, which causes choosing between the options to become almost impossible.

Question: For essay #5, by seminars they mean the four programs right? Sorry if it's a dumb question, I just want to make sure. You can never be too careful. =)

Yes, they mean the four seminars.

Ha, applying online >> applying by paper. I was paranoid that my computer would crash and it wouldn't send, so I went old school, but their specifications about how to arrange all the pages was enough to make my OCD cause a puncture wound in my skull.

Ah ok thanks!

Hmmmm maybe I should apply online. I don't know, I'd feel safer with mail though, but then I get paranoid that it might get lost in the mail. But if I send it via internet I'm afraid it might get lost in the cyber space.....There are specifications for arranging pages? Hmm yeah I see it on the front cover. I might just apply online, and call them to see if they got my app. Sigh paranoia always gets the best of me, haha.

I'm really confused about essay number 6.
I started writing it as a list of books, each with about four lines worth of why I feel they are important. But then, I re-read the prompt, and it just says to list the titles and authors. Is that really all there is to it, or was I doing it right in the first place?
And also, does "postmarked" just mean mailed?

Just list the books.

Gah. Are you serious?
