i can’t believe it’s been a month since we submitted our apps!!! almost there! i’m getting super nervous now…
It’s gotten to the point where I feel like puking whenever I think about TASP now. It’s not just heartbreaking when you don’t make it, it’s also really embarrassing for me because I’ve spent HOURS reading blog posts on tumblr by alumni.
Completely agree with you there. This last week is going to be especially nerve-wracking. I think I’d be okay with myself not making it… at least I would get a thicker skin for when I apply to colleges.
I think TASP is one of the few programs that I actually want to go to for the experience.
I can’t believe I didn’t think to look here when I was actually working on the essays and applying…so nervous! The program sounds like something I’d love to attend, but I highly doubt I stand a chance. I write a lot…but not Critical Analysis essays. That…honestly sucked. Ender’s Game was the only one I could think to do.
Also, from the last page on the subject of snow, my region in Missouri got a ten-day weekend due to it. Was a great birthday gift!
TASP hasn’t even been on my mind the last couple of weeks. It’s one of the things I don’t think about and think that I won’t be upset about if I got rejected, but honestly I’ll be bitter for another three months.
Hearing about the fabulous and intellectual essays all of you wrote already kind of gave me my answer in regards to whether or not I’m going to make the interview stage haha (convince yourself that won’t get in so that if you don’t, you won’t have gotten your hopes up, and if you do, happy birthday).
Though this might have been asked before and I just missed it (I didn’t read through every page on here), which of the seminars was at the top of your ranking list?
@Ozymandeos For me, it was 1. The Enlightenment (give me all there is) 2. SF (because Star Trek) 3. US History/fiction? 4. Cities
When did last year’s TASP results come out?
My order was:
1 Cornell 2 (Mapping Fictions)
2 Michigan 2 (Enlightenment)
3 Michigan 1 (Science Fiction)
4 Cornell 1 (Jerusalem)
Mine was a close-run thing between Science Fiction and the Englightenment, with Mapping Fictions in third, and Jerusalem in fourth. So anxious, waiting!
So, which of you guys’ and gals’ essays did you think were best? As in, which of them do you think you did the best job on, just for clarity.
@thegoldenage Those were mine exactly!
@meaa7130 Last year the acceptance ones came out on March 4th.
The acceptance ones, or the ones saying that they were being interviewed for it?
Interview ones, my bad. Acceptance for interviews.
It’s no problem; I was just making sure.
I’m curious, what were some of the things you guys had on your book lists? (The only thing I had that a lot of people I know hadn’t even heard of was Red Mars.)
I put down the Buddha in the Attic, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and some books I had read for class. My book list was agonizingly small.
Mine only had twelve, four of which were the Ender’s Game series.
I read a LOT, but few of the books are anything that can be considered ‘significant’. Just fantasy and sci-fi stuff, really. Most of my time’s just been on actual writing recently too. I really hope that my essays can stand out enough.
