@cxnxicee agghhh I can totally read hahaha. Thanks lol
@MangoLover11223 good luck on your last touch on the app:)
How many books are you guys putting down?
@dreamivory i put like 8 books and like 12 movies.
Also i just submitted and it felt so good. i wish all applications were like this one, i really feel like the admissions committee will get to know ME
anyone else obsessing over getting into this? my local internship opportunities would be cool but getting out and living somewhere else by myself for 6 wks would be amazing regardless of where i go and what i do i feel like. i think it could help with emotional maturity too and stuff.
I’m totally obsessing but realizing how trash my essays are :’)
Honestly terrified about the length of my essays. They’re all like 700 - 800 words. Other people have 3 page max essays filled with meaningful stuff but i don’t know
Hi guys!
It is I, another procrastinator looking for desperate advice. (Okay, in fairness, I didn’t know TASP existed until like December 28 and it’s been taking over my life since)
For those short answers about listing things, I did them in paragraph form and, seeing all of your suggestions to just directly list them, I’m wondering if I should change mine. Honestly, I just don’t want to. I’m planning on essentially working on my essays until the last beating second, and I’m debating if I even want to try to add fixing my short answers in with that.
What would be y’all’s suggestions?
Thanks so much! This forum seems so cool and helpful :))
Kiddo hit submit just before lunch yesterday, I was very proud of him. His long essays all came in at around 800-850 words. His short essays all had to be cut down to fit into the 250 word limit. He listed about 6 favorite books, two favorite TV shows and 3 or 4 favorite movies, and a bit about the connecting threads between all of them.
Now the wait until March. Kiddo has already forgotten about it, we’re starting to look at other programs for the summer (or preferably a job). I can’t help but being a little hopeful and a lot pessimistic. I sure hope he gets in and gets to meet some of you fine people.
@ninakatarina I just listed mine, but as long as the descriptions don’t detract from the amount things you want to list, I’d say go for it. They used to ask for descriptions (I believe they did in 2016?) but it’s not stated in the prompt this year. I don’t think the list matters that much (relative to your essays) and they might just use it to gauge your intellectual engagement. I don’t think it’ll make or break your application though. Besides, the essays are a lot more important. I would suggest prioritising those!
Man I just submitted my application after hearing about the program two days ago hahaha. Good luck everyone
Last question, I promise!
Are you guys just listing the books, movie, etc you like or are you explaining/ providing a description too?
what does it mean “your factota will also be given your application and essays”? not sure what factota is
@asdf124g is it our teachers? or parents? or interviewers? someone fill us in hahaha
never mind i looked on the website and apparently it’s like a few college students that help with the program
A quick question: Do we need citations for the second essay? Thanks a lot!
Sorry, guys. One last burning question. In that last short answer about explaining any poor semester performance or academic irregularities, is anyone using this space to make themselves seem more impressive, or are you just leaving it alone if this doesn’t apply to you?
The only “irregularity” that I have is skipping a year of French because I had a schedule conflict and taught myself the material I was missing. I could easily use that to seem more impressive, but I’m not sure at what point bragging on yourself is just obnoxious. Normally, I’d take any opportunity for that in an application, but with TASP it’s been pretty important to me to be authentic and just… I don’t know yall… thoughts?
The optional essay is only for academic irregularities and poor semester performances, such as gaps in education. YIf the main concern is missing a year of French – which I don’t think they will find overly concerning – then I would recommend leaving that area blank. It should not be used as a supplement to include more information about yourself.
If anyone could answer my question I will be forever great full
I’m just listing them without any description. Its pretty much a quick overview to get to know the student’s interests.
Gosh I’m so nervous about my essays.
I’d actually disagree. It is an example to put it on but if there’s selmthig that is SIGNIFICANT enough to put, put it. The French thing I’m not so sure about though.
