TASP 2019

Hey guys!

I’m starting a new thread for people applying to the TASP program in 2019, seeing how applications are out and nobody has made one yet.

I’m applying for it myself, and I was hoping to create a place for other applicants to talk and discuss.

Hey!
I just found out about TASP yesterday, and applied on the spot. It took me a few hours - feels like a new essay writing record. The questions were really inspiring and I just wrote freely, haha. :))

I don’t know if that was the best decision, but I had fun writing those essays - if I don’t get in, I still got something out of the process. [-O< I do hope I at least make it to interviews though.

Anyone else applying here? Previous TASP’ers wanna talk about it?

I’ll start it off. For the short answer question where it asks for a list of your favorite books, movies, etc. do they want just a list of the names or the names with a small sentence about why you like that particular thing?

@emmm16 I applied to TASS last year and only listed the names and authors/artists/directors, so I don’t think you need to explain any further

I went to TASP last summer. Hit me up with any questions you might have

This discussion was created from comments split from: TASP 2019.

Any examples of successful TASP essays previous TASPers are willing to share?

Also, are the people there super intellectual? I’m not very caught up on modern day social issues or intellectual issues, will that be a problem?

Is there any projects/grades/courses or do you just attend lectures and organize activities?

@GoBears2023 which TASP did you attend last year?

hey all! I attended TASP 2017 and was thinking about making a video on how I got in, since every year there are so many people interested in applying to TASP on this website. if I do, would y’all want me to post it here? it’d go over my essays, short answers, stats, etc. as well as general tips and things ^.^ as a former TASPer I always get messages from people asking for advice and I want to help you guys, so if this would be a good way to do it I’d love to know!

@5toryt3ll3r Yes, you should totally make a video!

@Pentatonix123 I’ll film one ASAP!

ah! yes a video would be amazing!

please make a video!! (and link it here when you do)
thank you so much!!!

2016 TASPer here. Feel free to pm me to ask for advice, essay revisions, you name it!

@emmm16 Cornell. Sorry for the late response!

@GoBears2023 No worries! How did you like Cornell? Did you guys stay in dorms? Wondering because that’s where my first choice is

@emmm16 We stayed in a separate house-type of thing. It depends on year. Honestly, just know that you will only be with TASPers and no one else really

@Pentatonix123 @youbetterstop @kanagawa As requested, here’s the video link! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2KA5X-LEKc

I also have a vid up on my later experiences with getting into Columbia, and considering the demographic of this group, here’s that one as well in case it can be of any help to y’all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtalOIpAIPU&t=1329s

@5toryt3ll3r I just finished watching your video and it was sooo helpful. I loved your unique writing style and personal anecdotes. What did you think of the seminar itself and what was the tasp community like?
