TASP Decisions

Just one question. Has anybody already been contacted by their factota?

No, I haven't. Eagerly awaiting, though.

i have! it was a nice, long letter detailing some of the particulars. one thing that caught my mind was the need for us to start thinking of ideas for our "pubspeak"

No message here yet :( Do we have to send in our health forms before we get them?

nope. i didnt send mine in yet

I got my letter today so yay! I was wondering, is anybody thinking of bringing a laptop to TASP? Apparently it's a good idea but can be risky because of theft. Another thing, has anyone thought about their PubSpeak yet?

i'm definitely going to take my laptop to tasp. I keep a good eye on my things so I think i'll be okay. Also, I'm thinking about doing my pubspeak on one of my essay topics (the rise of intolerant fundamentalism in religions around the world), or i might do it on something a little more artsy and fun, like the mathematics inherent in jackson pollack's splatter paintings.

ok has anyone else found it incredibly hard to think of a pubspeak topic?

juner i am in cornell ii and i asked ave to send me some topics ;) liked the hamlet one

I think I'm gonna do the effect of the meat industry on the world. My factota already know I'm vegetarian (had to tell them about diet restrictions) so now they'll know why! I could speak about it for hours anyway.

Hey guys, congrats on your acceptances! TASP will be an amazing experience, although quite trying at times. Make the most of the time you have with your fellow TASPers, all fascinating, quirky, and high-achieving people.

I'll be a factotum at UT-Austin, so I'm quite excited to see that some of you will be heading there. If any of you have questions, don't hesitate to email your factota - I know four of the other of this year's factota, and they're very excited each time they hear from their TASPers.

By the way, choosing a pubspeak topic is always challenging, but I recommend that you use this chance to research a topic that's always interested you or share something that you're very passionate about with your fellow TASPers and the factota.

Finally, bringing a laptop is an excellent idea.

Has anyone going to UT Austin gotten their rooming survey by e-mail yet? I'm afraid I might've deleted it by accident, cause they said we'd get it sometime in May...

i wonder how effective a rooming survey can be with such a small pool of people to match up...

ahhhhhh im so excited and anxious to meet everyone ... 26 days and counting...

Hey guyzes, what do you tell people when they ask what you're doing this summer?

I'm always like, "Um, I'm taking a class...at a college." "On what?", they go. And I'm like, "ummmmmmm....music? and popular culture? maybe?"

No one gets it.

PS. I am a perennial poster of this question, and it's a sucky one, but forgive me: how much is TASP gonna help us for college admission? I've heard word that Yale likes it, and a lot of TASP alums seem to end up at Harvard, Yale and Brown.

darling that's taboo

taboo--now thats a great game.

claret can you please stop askign what it will do for college? what you do and where you go before college cannot decide the decision for college. It's like asking whether you put down B for #4 on the SAT, how will it affect your score? It won't

while i can understand the spirit of zetsui's post, i also understand claret's anticipation for college. claret, as a fellow tasper, i'm very confident that tasp will benefit us in innumerable ways, including being a sterling part of our resumes. there's probably no single thing you could do during your summer in the humanities that would be better for a college application.

shaaaaaddyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

if you're going to to tasp for college, that's pretty lame. it's an unspoken perk, we're there for the subject, the experience, and the people, not the line on our transcripts.

everyone just take a major chill pill and revel in the fact that it's 3 weeks and counting!!!!! whoooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
