TASP vs. everything else I could do in 6 weeks

I'm very, very interested in applying to TASP, but the thing is, I'd be giving up so much to go. I was wondering if anyone could give their opinion. It's either: tasp, which is free; or 1 to 2 expensive summer programs, a summer job, many volunteer hours, the chance to go college visiting, and 1 to 2 internships. At first it may seem like an obvious choice, but tasp looks like such a fun and interesting program. Also, I was planning on taking my sat IIs this summer. Any input is welcome, and thanks!

First get in TASP, then worry about that.

SAT II's are offered in the summer? Sorry if I'm just being an ignoramus atm but I wasn't aware...

Check out the TASP thread, lol. Just apply to everything you're considering going to. I mean, getting into TASP is hard enough.

No they are not offered in the summer... but I guess the OP meant s/he was going to study all summer, then take them in October or whatever.

Go for TASP. If you are seriously interested that is. You shouldn't be worrying about how it will look to colleges, as either options are great EC material. The worst thing that happens is you dont get into TASP and you have a fun summer anyways.

Personally I was nominated for Telluride and offered a position for an 8 week position at a summer camp, Camp Dudley anyone, and I worked out a contingency plan and I have the option of still working this summer if I don't get into TASS. In other words, dont be discouraged.

Also you can get a pretty good gauge on TASP before your officially accepted as if you make it through the first round (essays) than, correct me if I'm wrong, there is about a 50% acceptance rate based on the interviews. So take it one step at a time, look at time restrictions o applications for your other options and if your gonna go out for TASP get started now because you got 6 essays to write. :-D

Good Luck!

Yeah i agree with the first poster....

get into TASP first...then worry about whether your going or not....if your lucky, you wont even have to worry about making that decision ;-)

TASP no question.

No, I would like to take this to the next level. If you reject TASP, I will freaking kill you because I would pay anything...anything...to relive those six weeks.

TASP>anything else you can possibly do over the summer. trust me on this.

You probably won't get into TASP if you're not enthusiastic at this point. Also, "expensive summer programs" as a rule suck. And seriously, how long is your summer break? I did plenty of things in addition to TASP.

no kidding. there's like three weeks before and after tasp in the usual summer. plus every tasp does volunteer work...
