@Intelligent08 nope, they asked how I discovered the program and why I was interested in it, etc. They also asked how I got interested in fem lit/AA studies
Interview at 1:30 pm today. So nervous…but i think i’m ready!!
How was your interview? @Intelligent08
I don’t feel too great about it. Wouldn’t be surprised if I didn’t get in. I had three interviewers and they were colleg students. I thought it would be easy with younger interviewers but it wasnt. They were asking me really difficult questions that I didn’t have a lot to say about. So I came off really repetitive. And they primarily focused on my 2nd essay about police brutality which I feel I did well at sometimes, but others they didn’t really understand what I was saying. I really wanted to get in but I guess I let my anxiety get the best of me. @univbound101
Just be hopeful @Intelligent08. Good luck.
@Intelligent08 The essays play a big role in determining if you’ll get in the program plus your teacher recs and transcript and stuff, so if your interview was meh, it’s not the end of the world! Chin up!
Thank you for the support. @univbound101 @notoriousrbg
Just a heads up for everyone that today’s the last day you want to wait to send things by priority mail. My sister waited to two days before the due date PREFACE set to start mailing her app. There was no guarantee it would get there on time, so my dad had to fork over $30 for next day delivery. Not fun at all.
Also, what type of assignments do they need for the writing sample? I don’t know which one to pick.
I picked an assignment from my AP world history class. It was a DBQ and I think I got 95 on it. But I didn’t turn it in because of the high grade, it was because of the specific in-depth feedback that my teacher gave me that I think TASS would be interested in. So just keep that in mind @Hamlon
The class assignment is to be emailed. TASS said the class assignment is to give TASS context about your school.
@Hamlon idk if i even sent a good piece (i wrote about the impossibility of the “american dream” for POC bc of white privilege and co-option of movements, etc.)–my lit teacher (white upper middle class female) is hella unwoke about white privilege and that stuff, so she literally commented on my essay that she didn’t believe she had “white privilege” and was only making a schoolteacher’s salary and “oh yeah affirmative action means anything is achievable” so i sent that in w the comments bc i thought that if TASS new what environment im around, they’d pity me and accept me into their program (that was a joke)–tbh idek if i sent the right thing either
Do you remember any of the questions that they asked you? Were they “aggressive” in criticizing your essay? @Intelligent08
They asked me mostly questions about my police brutality essay. Like “What can our society, policemen or even yourself do differently in order for a black man to walk on the street with a hood on without being stopped by the police .” or “Is it a good or bad idea to have the term race in our society.” I said it was a bad idea and they further asked questions like “How do you picture our world lookong if the word race never existed” and “What are some conflicts that could result in the disappearandce of the word race today.” And they werent really agressive or criticizing. They were mostly asking scrutinizing questions as they wanted to poke holes in my brain and push me to better understand my way of thinking. @dannydalt64
Hey guys, anyone have any questions about the interview? I just had mine yesterday, so just hmu if you have any!
I just got the flu and my TASS interview is on Sunday. Worst time ever. :((
@univbound101 Just try and rest. A few days before my interview I started stressing so badly that I broke out in cold sores all over my lip. I was terrified I’d have to go looking like someone beat me up and then threw up on my face. My lips finally healed the day before and I was so relieved! Don’t try to break your fever or else it’ll take longer for you to recover. Drink lots of fluids and rest for the next few days. You just have to wait it out and hope you get better in time.
I hope I get better soon. I followed your advice and rested today @Hamlon I feel a bit better, thanks.
2 weeks left!
Oh gosh, you’re right. Ugh, the wait is killlling me yet, paradoxically, I’m nervous for the results to come D: @Intelligent08
ugh too long to wait
