TASS applications are supposed to open up in October and i really want to apply! I know it’s kind of early but the application is supposed pretty long so I’d love any advice from TASS alumni. And does anyone know the acceptance rate is or how many people are expected to apply? And if this thread keeps going until october… what do you guys think of the application? It sounds like an amazing program and I really want to go but I’m scared of the application essays
I really want to apply too, and I just found the program lol. But you could take a look at the pdf and such, I’m also pretty sure once the application process really begins more people will come.
UMich TASP and TASS alum. I’d love to answer any questions you all may have!
In terms of TASS, would you mind breaking down what the typical day looked like? Did everyone have total freedom outside of class?
@wypiposuck___ In terms of TASS, would you mind breaking down what the typical day looked like? Did everyone have total freedom outside of class?
@mcyellow TASS is VERY strict. On a typical day, you will have to make breakfast for yourself, go to class for three hours, go to lunch, and then you’ll have some time to do your homework or explore the town. after that, you may have a scheduled event like community forum, house meeting, or pubspeaks. once you’re evening activity is done, you will have a very brief window of time to go out before curfew.
@wypiposuck___ do you have any advice to people currently completing the tass application. (Time management, what they look for in an application, etc)
Hey, just here to poke my head in and say that I’m applying too! I’ve only gotten one of the essays down so far (and I’m not sure if it’s what they’re looking for, I feel like I’ve veered off topic), but good luck to anyone and everyone who’s applying as well!
@nycbell As with any writing you do, I suggest revising your essays A LOT. However, this depends on the type of writer you are. I know people in my TASS who wrote their essays two days before and were accepted. I went through many drafts for TASP though.
As far as content goes, I suggest being your authentic self. Do not try to write something you think TA wants to hear. Be unapologetic.
@wypiposuck___ when you say there is a curfew for TASS what was your curfew? what did the evening activities entail? and what time did they usually end?
@wypiposuck___ or anyone else,
Does TASS expect the essays to be the full 1,500 words or would writing around 700-1000 suffice?
@nycbell my brother went to both tass and tasp and he said that each time, all of his friends had been very close to the word limit, and his words were in the 1300s and 1400s. I’m applying this year, and my counts are high 1300s to low 1400s.
I’m finishing all my essays tonight, right before the application is due. I’m so not getting in lmao
@helloCCpeople I just barely submitted my application! I hope that they don’t count my lateness against me — my essays have been a work-in-progress since October 27th, I just couldn’t decide on what I wanted to write about.
Reading over them, I cringe. I don’t think they’re good enough to get me in.
@phanakin Me too! I read back over them after I submitted and I just felt like they could have been better, especially essay #2
@CreativeWalrus: Same here, essays #2 and #3 I was especially iffy on. But I guess there’s nothing to do but wait.
Ooo! I got accepted as a finalist! I’m really surprised too! Did you get any emails?
I’m a finalist!!! I’m shocked!
I’m a finalist as well and so excited! I wasn’t expecting to get so far.
Good luck to all of you <3
Yeah, good luck to all of you!
