Am I the only one rooting for her to come back strong lol? Granted her music isn't the best, but when I see someone go through so much public turmoil, I can't help but hope she does well.

cues "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman" LOL

Do you listen to Meshuggah? They're a Swedish band too, and are awesome musically and lyrically but I really don't like the violent screams of the vocalist...

It's their best album in years but that's not saying much. Overall I think the other legendary rock bands that released new albums (Offspring, Foo Fighters, Weezer) were much better.

For you people out there that like rock and complain about country, you should really give quite a bit of it a chance. I'd say modern country has a lot more in common with classic rock than most rock nowadays. A relatively new radio format is southern rock, classic rock, and country rock. It's a pretty great blend that you shouldn't miss out on if you're into rock.

Man, without MTV we wouldn't have Money for Nothing. What song would I always air guitar to if I didn't have that?

I love indie music, like wolf parade, dodos, clap your hands say yeah, frog eyes, broken social scene, of montreal etc..
I also love certain types of electronic music (boards of canada anyone??), classical, and jazz.
I have to admit I'm one of those who like searching for obscure bands. One of my favorite things to do in my freetime is hop on the internet and search for new music.
But really hating on somebody's music taste is like hating on someone's favorite color, it's just their opinion.
Each genre has its ups and downs. Indie stuff has its goods and bads. Pop music is definitely catchy, but I can't say everything's great either.

However, I hate to contradict myself, but I can't really find any merit in mainstream rap...

I go for whatever really - pop, folk, metal, hip-hop, rock. I just hate it when people like a particular artist more just because no one's heard of it - no it doesn't mean they're better, no it doesn't mean you're more 'cool'.

Do you think it crosses their mind that there is a reason the band has been heard of?

I used to be a major music elitist. I always looked at people who listened to "MTV" music as close-minded. Of course, I was the one without the open mind. I definitely am getting a lot better about that. While going through this list, I've gone on youtube to check out some videos of the bands ya'll have listed as favorites.

I used to listen to a lot of indie, but my music taste have been changing towards more popular music as of late. I like a good bit of mainstream rock, but I mostly listen alternative and classic rock. Mostly I listen to the Beatles, REM, or other random rock bands. I can't stand country, but I can see how many people like it. To me, rap is just plain awful.

I'd say the majority of people doesn't know music. People nowadays just listen to whatever sounds nice to their ears or if they can dance to (hip hop or r&b). After about 2 months, the song almost disappears completely on the radio because nobody requests it anymore and the radio doesn't wanna play old songs. It's like music nowadays playing on the radio are 'fast food' type. It doesn't have a lot of meanings...

"yeah the typical way to make fun of a college kid is to attack his "indie" music that he/he started listening to in 1st year."

That is just sad that kids listen to a different genre just after hanging out with a certain clique or posse, and start thinking they are original or they found themselves...

I "found myself" in indie music years ago :P.

QFT. I definitely agree with this sentiment.

What happened to the days when people would listen to music because the band or artist was actually good? When a band that had great technical and musical ability would be more popular than all the generic sounds that pop up on the radio today? When people actually cared about good lyrics?
