Taste of Carleton :D

Anyone else get the application? I'm going to have to do some hard bargaining to convince my parents to let me apply/attend. I'm really excited so I hope I can persuade them.

I didn’t get it (yet?)

What is it?

^^ Maybe you’ll get it soon? I’m in TX too, so if you fit the criteria, it can’t be too long before it comes in the mail.

Taste of Carleton is like a diversity weekend. It’s geared toward minorities/ first generation/ low income students. Students that apply and are accepted get a paid visit to Carleton on Oct. 14-16. It’s a wonderful opportunity.

I don’t fall in the right categories for Taste of Carleton, but I did get an invitation yesterday for a meet & greet at an alum home in Houston in September. nice!

That sounds awesome griffen! I hope you enjoy it.

It looks like there aren’t many CCers applying to TOC. Too bad, I won’t have anyone to gush with :P

I sent my application in today notan :)

i am super new to cc but i just wanted to let you know that i sent mine in last week and you are welcome to gush to me (:

Yay, people. It was getting kind of lonely  Welcome to the board alohasophia!
I sent my app in yesterday. I had a last minute panic attack over the weekend when I realized we were out of stamps and that my transcript doesn’t include senior schedule.
It would make me feel a hundred times better if applications were online, since I have trust issues when it comes to snail mail.

How do you guys feel about your apps? I ended up going 7 words over the limit for the second question because I absolutely could not cut it down any further. Never realized how short 50 words is.

I wrote my essay for Bowdoin the other day and it had to be 250 words or less  It’s cool that the admissions are trying to get you to explain something clearly in such a small window, to see if you can, but not so cool to people who are writing them.

My application… Mine is 48 words, I think, and I basically said “hey! I like Carleton even though my friends make fun of me for wanting to go to a school named after “the black guy on Fresh Prince”, but I don’t mind their banter because Carleton seems awesome and different!” Then I realized my printer ran out of paper so I had to use blue paper. And the only stamps I had were of an underwater ecosystem. I only had yellow envelopes. So, yeah.

Haha, well I think that will make your application stand if nothing else  It reminds me of the scented pink paper from Legally Blonde.

I used a quote by a student from their admissions video (it really stood out to me) and touched on reasons I wanted to go there. I likened my relationship to Carleton with online dating, saying I needed to meet the school in person. As for the word limit. Well I just hope seven words don’t stick out too much.

I wonder how many applicants they get. I’m sort of nervous now.

Hey, does anyone know if it is too late to apply? I really wanted to apply but there has been nothing on the website…

^The deadline was September 15th. Did you get an application in the mail? My best suggestion would be to call or email them - I don’t know how lenient they are with these deadlines =/
I don’t think there was much information online, I had tried searching for it before but Carleton’s website only has a brief mention of it from one of the previous years.

Good luck, we look forward to hosting you all. :)

We’re also patiently waiting on D’s application to TOC. She got into Carleton’s Summer Writing Program (SWP) last July, but was hoping to get a sense of the campus w/all ~ 2000 students there. Good luck to everyone who has applied…!

Emails are going out today!

I received one and nearly started hyperventilating. I hope to see some of you CCers in Minnesota

On a side note, we’re supposed to submit Part I of the online application now. Does anyone know if we do this regardless of whether or not we’re applying via Common Application? I’ll probably have to email them and ask.
My first name is spelled wrong in the email (really hope there isn’t someone else with that name and my acceptance was just a mix up), but I’m not sure if I should comment on it if I reply. Any suggestions?

I was accepted as well. I’ll see you there.

I filled out Part 1 of the application in early September. Yes, you do it as a supplement to the Common App.

Congratulations(!) & thanks for answering my question. It seems kind of obvious now that you say it :P

Do you know what the purpose of the hard copies of the forms will be? If they’re arriving in the mail later this week, and everything is due on Tuesday - I don’t see how that will work out. Regardless, I hope everything goes smoothly. I’m going to have to convince my parents to write a check (originally, I was going to use my savings to pay the $50) and I’m slightly worried that they’ll think this is a scam of some sort.

Notan–you go for it. This school sounds like a dream. Academically challenging juxtaposed w/to earth students–nice combo. It’s not a scam; have them talk with your high school counselor, if necessary for backup.

My daughter got her email confirmation a couple days ago. We’re excited for her…!

I got my confirmation e-mail too!!! So excited!!!
