Tax returns early?

So my parents usually file their tax returns by April 15th, not by February like some schools ask. Is it a must to file tax returns early?

Can I just use last year's (2010) as an estimate for FAFSA, CSS profile, and NCP?
And I guess I would just send the 2011 tax returns when they're ready in April...

Would that work or would that mean I won't be considered for aid packages until April?

thanks.

If the deadline is Feb- then you will be extremely fortunate if there is leftover money in April.

Try filing PROFILE using info from 2011 end of year check stubs- more accurate than 2010, for most people.

You can file PROFILE using those numbers, then file FAFSA beginning in January- and later amend them when you have accurate numbers.

I know its a pain, but it really is important to get ALL the forms done asap.
What EK says is correct- the “early bird” really DOES get the FA “worm” .

The important thing is to file on time, even if you estimate. We always file the FAFSA in January with an estimate of the amounts, then update in April when the taxes are done.
