I am currently applying for financial aid and several schools that I have applied to request signed 2010 tax returns from both parents and students.

I've never filed taxes and have not held any jobs so I don't have any tax returns. Some of the colleges specifically ask that I fill out a "Student Non-Tax Filer Statement" but others do not. Should I assume that any college asking for tax returns wants me to fill out a Student Non-Tax Filer Statement and does each school have a unique form for the Non-Tax Filer Statement?

Thanks for all the help, feeling quite overwhelmed.

Some schools have their own non-filer form, and some use a generic form. Check your schools’ websites thoroughly, or call the FA office at the schools.

CollegeBoard also has a non-filer form that gets sent with IDOC info (don’t worry about it if you don’t need to know what that is) so you could do a websearch for that form and use it. It has their logo so it will look official.

The form is VERY easy, regardless of whose it is.

It’s going to be fine. Like driving a car, no one knows how to do this, before they start. Meet your deadlines and pay attention to all mail and email.

Suggestion: mail all copies of tax returns via certified mail, return receipt requested. (the little green postcard you get back.) This way you know the financial aid offices received them.
