Hi, I am a Current senior in a NJ hs (Will Graduate 2016), and I am currently interested in becoming a nurse. I recently visited TCNJ, and I feel like it’s a perfect fit! Please let me know your opinion on my chances of getting in as a nursing major at TCNJ or any of the other schools listed here. My only issue with TCNJ and my ED acceptance is cost of attendance. I was wondering if anyone knew what my chances of receiving a merit scholarship were at TCNJ or an idea of how much I could possibly receive as merit scholarship. Also does TCNJ send out merit scholarships awards with ED acceptances? Here are my current stats and my current classes:

Many schools use Superscores for admission, but not for merit, so check with each school.
If some/all of your schools use “single sittings” for merit consideration and most do not use the W score at all, so your 1390 is what will likely get used. It’s both your single sitting and super score.
Merit awards usually come with ED acceptances so that you’ll know what you’ve been awarded when you accept.
You won’t get much from Clemson. Clemson has a high OOS rate, so any merit would only bring it down a very small amount. Likely not less than TCNJ instate.
What do you want your net cost to be? How much will your parents pay?
I think you’ll get into TCNJ, but is their BSN program impacted?
Your scores are in the upper 25% of the school, so if the school awards merit to those students, you should get some…but, TCNJ isn’t known for large awards…their awards are smallish.
You should retest and try to get a 1400 M+CR…that is a threshold for many schools’ larger awards.
Thank you! My mom isn’t intending to pay for my schooling at all, but I plan on working through senior year and will probably have 7,000 saved by the time I graduate hs. I also plan on working through college and obtaining an RA position starting sophomore year. I am OK with paying student loans in the future after I graduate hs. I just have to convince my mom to let me apply ED to TCNJ and she won’t unless she is sure that I will get decent money (merit/need based scholarships from the school), and maybe some federal grant money to maybe get TCNJs 32000 COA down to about less than 20000.
Also what does impacted mean?
And i do not plan on taking SATs again.
Yea i know. I believe my mom is wiling to take out the loans necessary, but I believe she will make me pay them, however that works. She is just unwilling to take out astronomically high loans. And my my family is just me and my mom and the income is around 70000-90000/year and oh I believe that it is impacted.
For a nursing degree, you should NOT borrow more than $30k-40k TOTAL for four years. You need to find schools where your stats will get large merit, and leave you with little to pay.
What other NJ schools have BSN and will give huge merit?
With a 1390 SAT, try UAB (great for BSN), UAH, and other schools that will give HUGE merit and aren’t impacted. …but they’re OOS and may be too far away for you.
I am looking at William Paterson and Rutgers now, but am leaning towards Rutgers. I don’t believe that Rutgers gives out large merit for my stats, but I think that I could get grants from the school and grants from NJ if I attended Rutgers. I am hoping this could be a viable option, but i’m not sure
Hi. I’m a senior in NJ too. I also applied to TCNJ and Rutgers, (not nursing) but I am not expecting any kind of aid from those schools. Did you run the net price calculator? For those schools I get nothing on the calculator (income $170,000 with 5 people in our household and very good stats). Luckily, the in-state tuition for those schools is relatively low. I think your income may be to high for any government grants, and as from what I understand Rutgers gives money only to the highest of high stat candidates. I understand, I am in the same boat of having an unaffordable EFC. My mom is an RN at the teaching hospital for Rutgers, which is right across the street from the School of Nursing in New Brunswick, and she told my friend who is applying for nursing that it is possible to get a job in the hospital as an aide or transporter, and you can also get tuition reimbursement up to $5000 for a BSN depending on how many hours you work, plus you have foot in the door for a job later. Just something else to consider. Also, what about Temple? Your stats would qualify for some really good merit aid too. Good luck!
