TCNJ Medical Program Undergraduate Courses

For those who get accepted into the program, what are the courses for the Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Years of TCNJ? Thanks

Well you don’t have to take them in any specific order, with the exception of some of the sciences which require pre-reqs. Assuming you have no AP credit, this is a possible schedule:

Freshman Fall:
themes in bio, gen chem I, freshman seminar
Freshman Spring:
eukaryotic cell biology, gen chem II
Soph Fall:
genetics, orgo I, calc A
Soph Spring:
ecology, orgo II, calc B or stats
Junior Fall:
bio option 1, physics I
Junior Spring:
bio option 2, physics II

This is just one example. The rest of the classes would be filled with liberal learning requirements. Of course, if you come in with some AP credit, you’ll be able to place out of certain classes, or take other courses sooner.

I had emailed Dr.Shelvin of TCNJ, and he said, with certain AP Credits, I would be able to cut another year out of my undergraduate studies, therefore finishing the undergrad portion in 2 years time.

I will probably be able to place out of the following if neccessary (according to the AP Credit Placement stuff on TCNJ):

Liberal Learning Science (Biology Majors Elective only)
STA 215 Statistical Inference (Liberal Learning/Quantitative Reasoning)
MAT 127 Calculus A (Liberal Learning Quantitative Reasoning) or MAT 125
MAT 127-128 Calculus A – B (Liberal Learning Quantitative Reasoning)
CHE 201-202 General Chemistry I – II (Liberal Learning Science)
CSC 220 Comp Sci I: Computer Problem Solving (Placed into CSC 250)
ECO 102 Principles of Macroeconomics (Liberal Learning Social Science
WRI 102 Academic Writing
HIS365 Topics in North American and US History (Liberal Learning History-US)
PHY 121-122 Principles of Physics (Liberal Learning Science)
PSY 101 Introduction to Psychology (Liberal Learning Social Science)

With those courses skipped, how would the schedule look? Would that be a 2 year Undergrad schedule then?

Other Questions
Also, how many classes are there per semester?
What is Freshman Seminar?
What are the Bio Options 1/2?
What do you mean by other classes would be filled with liberal learning requirements? How many classes would that be?

Thanks so much for your help!

You could finish in 2 years but I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have any financial issues. I don’t think the college likes people doing that either. Just enjoy your three years in tcnj before med school.

It looks like you don’t have to take any math and you can take orgo freshman year if you want. The other classes just fulfill some liberal learning requirements or count as electives, which just count as credit.

There are generally 4 classes per semester. Freshman seminar is a course you take freshman year, usually with people on your floor. You have to take an fsp not in your major. By the way, that schedule I gave you is assuming you’ll choose to be a bio major. If you choose another major, your schedule will look at different. Bio options are 300 and 400 level courses like neurobiology, immunology, evolution; there are a lot of choices and it varies every semester.

Liberal learning requirements include history, social science, and visual art courses. You also have to take gender, global, and race/ethnicity courses. You also have to take a language to the 103 levels. The maximum you would be taking would be around 7 or 8 probably but you have a bunch of APs that would satisfy these requirements and most courses satisfy multiple requirements.
