TCNJ optometry requires at least 1300 (CR+M) so I’m afraid your dog is dead for that program. As for NJIT honors, you fall short of even being considered by a mere 20 points (1600 scale) I assume one of NJIT regular or Rutgers is a safety for you…

As a current seven year optometry student, I’ve been to the interview for SUNY college of optometry for the joint degree program with NJIT/ TCNJ. I’m at TCNJ. You unfortunately have no chance at optometry because SAT math score. They personally will tell you upfront and personal that they look for people with 700 math scores at that interview. If you’re school doesn’t have class rank, then you’ll possible get away with the gpa requirement. You have much experience from shadowing so continue and hopefully you can reapply 4 years from now when you’re in college. Hope this helps.

I’ve been studying for the next SAT (May) since after I took my first SAT. I’ve gotten a bit over a 700 in math (highest being 720). Out of all the practice tests, the average score was a 708. I’m aiming for a 620 in critical reading. I’m getting 540s, 570s. I hope I get in atleast a good school. I screwed up my freshman in high school by getting two C+. Meh :/

And I read that I can apply for the optometry program again my freshman and sophomore year. Do they still look at your high school grades?

You can apply during your freshmen year of college. Also keep in mind that they have a quota for the number of transfers into the program, because suny has a class of 75 optometry students per year. They only have so many seats reserved for undergrad students.I don’t think they will look much at your high school grades if you transfer in, but they put a lot of of emphasis on the college grades that you already have just to see that you can handle the work load of undergrad and eventually opt. school. I’d try to get that critical reading score to a 700 or 650 at the least. I think as long as your overall gpa is high and you showed improvement during high school you’ll be ok with their gpa requirements. I was at the suny openhouse in january and they put extreme emphasis on improvement in terms of grades (high school and college). That means don’t let your grades slip and go down.
