My s was accepted to TCNJ and Rowan Engineering Schools (Electrical engineering). Having difficulty finding information to compare each and make an educated decision on which is best for him. Any comments are appreciated!

TCNJ is NJ’s Honors College and it’s basically creating a college town around the university to prove it. General offerings are better at TCNJ and it’s more residential than Rowan, so I’d pick TCNJ.
However…
How much does each cost, after scholarships/grants but before loans?

Thanks for responding MYO. Rowan offered a great scholarship basically covering tuition (not R&B). Also accepted into Honors program. Did not receive anything from TCNJ. TCNJ has a great reputation though and my S also prefers a smaller environment. But is it worth the extra $. Need to figure out which school assists more with getting Internships/positions upon graduation.

Sorry. Rowas would be 13K and TCNJ 27K per year. We are In State

I like TCNJ. Beautiful facade. More selective OVERALL than Rowan. But I strongly and vehemently disagree with MYO for Electrical Engineering. Rowan is head-and-shoulders above TCNJ in engineering in every possible way. And that gap will only grow as the cash flows into Rowan. Heck, they’re building a second engineering building and more housing. The comparison shouldn’t be to TCNJ, it should be to top-flight long-established Engineering Schools and programs.

TCNJ is “more residential” than Rowan?! Nonsense! If that’s the case, why are there so many TCNJ and Stockton students visiting Rowan on the weekends? You rarely see that flipped. Both draw commuter students and adult students, but Rowan is far more residential and, again, that has grown and will continue to grow.

Frisbee: If your son were majoring in humanities, general ed, teaching, business, et. al., I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend TCNJ. It’s a nice school. But it’s engineering is not in the same league as Rowan is now and will be.

Thank you Spaceman! Very helpful. We actually went to an accepted students engineering open house this weekend. We were very impressed with the presentation and the Engineering School. My s and I really liked the professors and are excited about the new building coming for his Junior year. I think that this day helped him make his decision. Last week we went to TCNJs “while you are deciding” day and were disappointed with many things. It was a beautiful campus but we did not get a good feeling about the Engineering program. Rowan made every effort to help us understand their program and I appreciate their professionalism, time and attention given.

Due to costs, your major, and your “gut feeling”, it sounds like Rowan is the best choice. Congratulations!
