I know TCNJ is supposed to have a great science and medical department, but how is campus life? I know that its right near Trenton, and from what I have heard, while the campus is nice, you really can't leave the campus or you'll be in a bad area of Trenton. Is this true?

TCNJ is actually in Ewing and is surrounded by middle class homes in a quiet suburban neighborhood. To get anywhere interesting off campus, you're better off if you have a car -- which is not possible as a freshman unless you matriculate with AP credits to advance your standing. It's right off Route 1, near Princeton Univ, and straight down Rt 195 to Belmar and the beach. Unfortunately, there's no place interesting within walking distance of the campus. But locally, though there was one recent gang incident (highly unusual), safety shouldn't be an issue.

It's true that you can walk for about 30 minutes and you'll be in a bad neighborhood. There are also rumors of rapes and such at frat parties. There is a bus (called "The Loop Bus") that is free and will take you to movies, the mall and hamilton train station. NJ Transit makes a stop there so you can take the bus to Trenton train station. There are activities on campus, but the people I know drink most of the time (some every night of the week) and the CA's (Community Assistants who live on the floors) turn a blind eye for the most part. But the people are probably the most outgoing students I have met.
