I just applied to TCU early decision (I am from NY) and I was wondering if someone could pretty please tell me what you think my chances are.

Junior- 3.91
Senior- Still in progress but I so far I am receiving A's and A-'s…

SAT: 1740
CR: 580
Math: 510 (I know, very low but I just can't seem to get it up)
Writing: 650

EC's:

I also took two school trips- to Europe and to Washington DC. There was an option to do assignments and receive school credit for them, which I opted to do.

I have taken AP Environmental Science and almost all Honors and accelerated courses.

I applied through TCU's own application and did the Freedom of Expression, which may I add, was so fun to do. The essay and supplements were also looked at by my tutor, and pretty good if you ask me.

PLEASE let me know if I have a shot. Thank you so, so much!

You will get in but TCU isnt the greatest. The campus has a big drug problem. It is also VERY expensive considering UT dallas and Tech are nearby. If i were you and wanting to go to a school in texas, I would look at Tech or UT dallas. These schools are a little harder to get into though but are more presitgious compared to TCU.

We went to a couple of the admissions events at TCU where we heard some of the admissions counselors talking, and based on the little bit that I know from that, I’d give you a 90% chance or better.

My reasoning for why you will likely get in is:
1 - Your test scores are fine.
2 - Your overall GPA isn’t tops, but you show improvement year-to-year. For those without a perfect GPA, they will give more weight to the grades you earned in your junior year and first 6-weeks of senior year. This is a plus for you since your grades have gotten better over time.
3 - They like people who took advanced classes when possible (AP, honors, etc.), which you have done.
4 - You are well-rounded outside of the classroom, which is a plus.
5 - You applied Early Decision - It shows them you really want to be at TCU - this is a plus.

TCU had a high profile drug bust of some athletes a few years back, but the police caught and prosecuted most of them. Since then, I don’t think they have any more of a drug problem than any other college.
Also, most everyone that is accepted to TCU is offered a financial aid package (so until you get that package, you can’t assume what your final cost will be).
Also, TCU is an exciting place to be for many reasons - and the football team is currently number 4 in the College Football Playoff Rankings.
Also, I respectfully disagree with you - UT Dallas and Tech are not more prestigious. I don’t think either of these schools has the national recognition that TCU has.

I live near the TCU campus and the local news frequently reports on drug busts in the area and on campus. The most notable being a large number of football players being involved in a drug ring. Im sure this was a rare occurence. TCU’s drug and alcohol safety rating is a C- which illustrates there is a problem with drugs and alcohol. A recent poll of TCU students showed that 75% of them believe there is a “pretty noticible” to “very noticible drinking scene”. Another big story in the news was that T Boone pickens (billionare oil mogul) grandson died of a herion overdose on the campus and a couples of students were investigated and 1 was indicted. I also find it interesting that your from NY but want to go to TCU seems odd lol. And while TCU has a good football team, it isnt a good reason to attend. Now that i’ve bashed TCU pretty hard i have to say its a great school. Do some deep research there might be other options out there that you like better. But again nothings wrong with TCU just keep in mind a culture deeply rooted in greek life

ChicagoBulls232, I have researched the university thoroughly. I can honestly say that it is the perfect school for me, which is why I applied early decision… and it’s not because of the great football team lol. Coming from NY, I wanted to go to school down south, and have a change of pace for once. College is the time to explore your options and it just so happened that the best option for me is TCU.
