I will try to help anyone and everyone, if you have questions about admissions, student engagement, scholarships etc just ask me. I am in many groups and have tons of experience with faculty as well as the engagement on campus.
@zer0gr4vity Would you be in favor of adding a challenge that to get one’s diploma one must blindly navigate out of Sid Rich within a 30 minute time limit? It would be quite entertaining ;p
@SuperfrogFan Hard pass.
What is the attitude toward ROTC cadets on campus? Son was admitted EA and we’ve never been to campus (will be visiting soon).
@Jtreehiker I think ROTC cadets are well liked. I know a few myself, they hang out with the general student population as well as with themselves. Sometimes they can be seen training around campus, and they volunteer at lots of events. I’m sure there’s some friendly competition between Air Force and Army. Mostly males, but some females as well in ROTC, as to be expected. I think they have early classes/ training because they are always the most awake people at 8am classes. Some days they wear fatigues, others ROTC polos and khakis and others free dress. If you are visiting during the schoolyear you could probably find some around campus.
Thanks @SuperfrogFan, very good to know. We can’t wait to visit to see if it will be a good fit.
@Jtreehiker ROTC is very well liked, so is military. Alot of our football games will have walk-ons from military and ROTC. Other colleges in the DFW don’t have a ROTC program like we do. The entire lower wing of the REC center is dedicated to armed forced and ROTC. I also think TCU has connections with the local Anderson AFB. (The military bowl is held here and every game we have a fly over pretty much)
Glad to hear it. Thanks for the info!
@zer0gr4vity : DS is not much into football and probably not much into frats. Will he have anyone to hang out with?
@rubixcuban That is such a fair question. I worried about fitting in as well. I came into TCU under the impression most are in frats… but that’s half true. While greek life is predominant so are other areas, for example I am in the crew. It is a family-like organization, that plans events across campus to bring happiness to TCU. It was started in 2008 by our chancellor to combat depression and suicide. We have had everything from an actual snowslide and Santa (the last event of fall 2019) to a petting zoo. TCU students plan these events and each person can suggest whatever they want. The point is, there are HUNDREDS of groups if your son is into debate… we have that. We even host a debate comp… so your son will fit right in. If you have specific things your son likes or might want to look into it. Let me know in PM if you’d like and I’ll get him in touch with people or try to reach out to people! LMK if you have any other questions.
How prevalent is the religious aspect of the university? My daughter was accepted EA, and is seriously considering TCU but we are not very religious. Will she feel out of place?
@Coffeegal99 To quote some of the tour guides here “You can make the C in TCU as big or small as you want.” While I call myself a Christian and enjoy various church events, I know many people who are not religious, but still have a great time! TCU is affiliated with a denomination, but not governed by it; there are no compulsory religious events, and the only thing that might come close is a requirement to take a religion class. These classes, however, are offered in all different variations about: African religions, the Bible, the Quran, a brief look at all World Religions, etc.
There are so many student organizations to choose from, and it’s all up to the individual is the great thing So bottom line, I think your daughter would feel very comfortable, and if you end up touring feel free to ask any student their thoughts too!
@Coffeegal99 if you have any specific question you can email me or setup a phone call so i can smooth over any worries and get your D connected with some groups if need be. Anything to help. You can email me and ill point you to the groups if your D is worried or enrolled at TCU and you can relay them to her thanks!
