TCU vs SMU

I have sent my application to SMU and TCU (accepted to the latter with 18000 per year) I was wondering how they stack up vs each other Is there any insight you might be able to give me into SMU that I don’t already know vs TCU. Also i’d like to know how they stack up vs each other in terms getting a job afterwords. THANKS!

What is the difference in total COA (cost of attendance) for you at each university ?

What do you plan to study ? Any career goals ?

@Publisher it’s probably the same maybe more at SMU i know alumni at SMU. Theres no way smu would give me less than TCU I am almost 96% sure my GPA is so high so theres that. I am studying business so neeley vs cox. I want to do BCIS(information systems) or consulting. Thanks for replying !

You should do well with a business degree from either school.

Pick the school that you like better.

US News reports that 99% of TCU undergrads are involved in fraternities or sororities. Is that a misprint ? 64% at SMU. My understanding is that both schools attract mostly upper middle class & upper class students.

P.S. If you choose consulting as a career, save money for an MBA as most top consulting firms expect one to earn an MBA after 3 or 4 years of work experience.

Regarding sorority/fraternity participation at TCU & SMU, I misinterpreted the statistics so please disregard my comments about them in post #3 above.

@Publisher actually sounds almost right I took a tour at TCU and they said something along the lines of 80% are in some sort of organization! In my opinion they are about the same correct ? smu is slightly better in rankings but TCU is climbing every year from my observations

@Publisher also I know smu doesnt have as much student life and what not

SMU has a bit more diverse student body which is a plus when entering the real world.

also I know smu doesnt have as much student life and what not

@ZeroGravity1 What do you mean by this above statement?

If you are relying on merit only then look at SMU’s total COA, your parents will end up paying a fortune for a mediocre school. Just housing & meal plan is $17,000.

I can’t comment on TCU but Baylor is more likely to offer a better merit and their COA is lower, off campus housing is more affordable as well.

These schools aren’t significantly different for academics, culture or job placement so I would say go by affordability.

@CupCakeMuffins as a transfer and generous parents I don’t have to live on campus or have a meal plan

@3mamagirls smu is very focused on academia not to say that’s a bad thing but I’ve been around smu for around 10 or so years going to games Interacting with students wtc etc smu is one of the best schools if not the best [if you dont include rice] in texas with all that being said tcu is more focused on an experience and making students feel welcome their first years tcu even has a group called the crew that stages events like every week or so around the bluu and around 50% [you can fact check that ] are in some sort of groups they even have a Greek housing village. SMU doesnt really have that now that DOESNT mean SMU is a bad school its just more focused on academia .

I edited to reflect the % based upon sororities and fraternities. All in all both schools are good im just looking for opinions on both
