@booger thats the deadline i applied for as well!! Waiting to see what happens…I wonder if anyone has ever walked away without being able to do an interview? I’m going to ontact my recommenders early in the coming week and prepare them to look for an email!

@TFAHopeful21 based on reading last year’s thread, I think a few people’s statuses stayed “Under Review” the whole time without having documents verified. But they might have changed things this year if we’re going by the email they sent @emac542.

@TFAHopeful21 To me, it does seem a bit silly that Teach for America would leave such an obvious hint to tell an applicant whether they were in or not a week before. Then again, would they bother looking too much into a TF application if the person got accepted? Probably not.

However, I decided to check last years’ posts for a few hours last night (goodbye, sleep) because I was irrationally freaking out and it seems, for last year anyways, there was a clear correlation between the TF status and acceptance. However, I also think that a) they could change it from last year and b) people’s statuses were changing up until the very last day c) even if it says “complete”, it could also mean you were waitlisted.

Hey guys,

Just thought I would share this email I got from the TF people…hopefully this will ease some nerves.

"We have some glitches that our tech department are working on, but they will not be fixed for a couple weeks (so they won’t be fixed before Notification Day).

All applications should remain “Under Review” until Notification Day. Apparently some are changing to “Complete” while others are remaining listed as "Under Review. If your status does not change to “Complete”, that does not mean we have not reviewed your application.

We have been having trouble with the verification of documents on the applicant’s end. Documents marked as verified always pull through to the applicant’s end, but verified documents don’t."

@victoriapat, I also checked last years posts for hours and hours, and there were several people who’s status’s had changed to complete and then they didn’t post anything at all on acceptance day. I think we may have limited data on those who were rejected. And yes, it is entriely possible that they changed it. I would like to beleive that a complete is a good sign, but its also driving me crazy! Before that stupid change I had refused to let myself believe that I would be accepted so I wouldn’t be so disappointed if I wasn’t. At least I have some news to look forward to today, its notification day for Spanish Test results.

I have been receiving an error message whenever I attempt to view my TF status and I also sent supporting documents late on 10/23 (oops!). So I wrote an e-mail inquiring if my documents were received and they responded similarly to @emac542 e-mail, (paraphrasing):
We received your application along with 2 documents and received a 3rd document on October 23rd. We have not yet reviewed your application. We are a little more than halfway through all the applications we received and should get to your application within the next few days (by next Tuesday). They then went on to discuss the issue I was having with the error message, which they linked to refreshing an inactive page and attempting to re-sign in.
Hope this eases some tension with those of us who have not seen any TF status updates!

@Tinitafish that’s a good point about the people whose statuses had changed to “complete” but didn’t post on acceptance day. Interesting…

I think this is driving us ALL crazy. I too spent hours looking at last year’s posts. TFA is consuming me lol :(

Hey guys, this is a little unrelated but has anyone’s reference been contacted? Mine hasn’t and I don’t know whether to take that as a good or bad thing.

@Townie01 my reference hasn’t been contacted either! And I actually am responsible for looking through my reference’s email so I would probably know before she did lol. I think TFA just contacts references if they need more specific info not provided by the recommenders. I don’t think it’s a good or bad thing!

Yeah, at this point I wish TF status changes weren’t even a thing. I hate stressing over it, but not knowing if it means anything! Mine still has absolutely no changes - no N/A or anything, and still under review. It also worried me, because when I emailed and asked about the error message, the response I received said they had gotten my documents and that the error message was a technical glitch that should be getting fixed. She didn’t say anything about the amount of applications or when they would get to mine like she said to others.

@explorer17 I know one of my recommenders had a hard time filling out the recommendation form due to the nature of our relationship, so I kind of assumed my reference would be contacted. But, I think you’re right. Do you think there is a chance they will still be contacted, or do you think decisions have already been set in stone? I wish next Thursday would get here already!! 6 days :(

@Townie01 I’m wondering the same thing! It’s difficult to say based on last year’s thread because some references were contacted after decisions had already allegedly been made, but maybe that was to help determine if a specific placement would be appropriate? I honestly have no clue, lol!

@elemteacher I know what you mean! But don’t lose hope - they emailed me that verified documents aren’t showing up in all cases, so you could just be one of those cases.

Hey everyone! My documents all still have a blank and the page still says Under Review. However, just got an e-mail from TF stating that they have reviewed my app and documents and that they are having a technical difficulty when they post documents as verified. She said that when they need more documents from an individual that the changes show up on the screen but there is a problem with the “yes” coming up if you submitted the correct documents.
Soooo, I’m not really sure what’s up with the TF thing. My unsubmit button has never reappeared, that’s curious as well.
I’m dreaming of teaching in Memphis, seems like a really cool area, and I’d really like to work with any grades, my dream subject would be English. I also put Denver, Washington and though it was a “possible area for the future” I put down upstate New York. I live in the Bay Area and would love to be able to pay the rent without having a heart attack every month.
How is everyone dealing with the stress? I’d love some suggestions!

Has anyone heard back regarding the spanish placement exam?? Do you guys really think the results don’t effect your acceptance at all?

The unsubmit button is still showing on my assignment preference form, anyone else??

@tfahopeful89 Welcome to the thread and what a great attitude to have! You’re like a breath of fresh air to the tension and anxiety on here!

@victoriapat Good points. I think they may have changed it from last year, you never know. Watch us all be stupified come acceptance day at the lack of correlation between TF status and acceptance.

@explorer17 I wonder if that email is true. In previous years they have said similar things about there being no correlation and that the under review would remain, but for everyone who got in it changed. Maybe they meant to fix it this year? Maybe not. And I didn’t know they sometimes contact references after acceptance decisions are made. That’s so odd.

@tfahopeful21 Sounds like what they said at the end, telling you why it was happening, is what I told them I was doing when it happened to me. So…glad I could help them out?

@mangostreet05 You already live in one of the top areas. I only didn’t preference Bay Area for that exact reason - that the cost of living would be too high given my income. The same thing happened with my documents. They requested a new one, but when they did they couldn’t update the status to yes so they said it would say n/a although it was verified.

Does anyone see any cases on previous threads about them requesting more information from an applicant for their TF but then that person not getting accepted? I’m wondering if the request for more documents is a good sign for many of us or not. Also, I do not have an unsubmit button. 6 more days!

@juliaf9 – my form still gives me the option to “unsubmit” too! i’m wondering if this means we have not been placed…

@explorer17 - regarding those from last year who’s reference was contacted a few days before notification, do you recall if those individuals were given offers?

@tfahopeful2014 I don’t think that the unsubmit still appearing means anything, and I would guess that at this point they still have to place the vast majority of people. I think someone posted earlier that there are only 2 people who do alllll of the placements, so it probably takes them a while to get through them, because they have to look at each coursework information form and what classes everyone has taken in addition to both regional and subject preferences

@elemteacher–I wouldn’t worry about their response too much, maybe it was the way you worded your question? I directly asked if they had received my application/documentation because of the error message I was receiving and my TF Status still read that they had not reviewed my application yet.
@emac524–maybe after you complete your 2 years as a Corps Member they’ll recruit you to work for their IT department ;)
