Teach For America 2014 Corps

I asked a question on the “help” tool and I got this response:

You can see if your documents were uploaded successfully by accessing your Transitional Funding Status page on the Applicant Center. Please note that we will not update your status until after final notification. If there is a date and link under the Submission Date, we have received your documents.

Best,

She did not really answer my question. I asked if I would be notified, if admitted, on notification day since I submitted the 2012/2013 SAR and I uploaded the 2013/2014 SAR Oct. 21st. I think her answer gives hope to those of us that have not had our documents verified, don’t throw in your towels yet. Good luck everyone, Oct. 31st is almost here :)

@TeachforChange I wouldn’t give up until you get an actual response. TFA takes extreme pride in its selection process and I think they try to preserve the integrity of it as much as they can. That’s why I think they try to keep everyone in the dark until the final notifications. I have a feeling the recruiters, especially the managers, are tipped to how many people were given offers since that’s their job, but I doubt that they are given names because that would leave the organization open to criticisms that the selection process is skewed. Although the correlation was pretty strong on last year’s thread, there were A LOT of people who never posted on it. So I wouldn’t jump to any conclusions. TFA wants to avoid any hinting at acceptance or rejection. I think using the threads for statistical analysis is a bad idea since one could argue we are using this site because we want it the most out of everyone else. I’m not a statistics major but I won’t rely on this thread or last year’s thread to draw any conclusions. We are all in until we’re not!!! And I’m sure the admissions team caught wind of the correlations from last year.

I also have a question for everyone? Did your online recommenders talk to you about the process they had to go through. I wish I could read what they had to say because I’m so interested in it! I bumped into one of mines today and she said she hooked me up but I want to see exactly what she wrote. Does anyone have any specifics of what it actually is? I didn’t ask my people yet. But from what I’ve heard, it seems like it’s almost like a survey and they’re given a space to elaborate on specifics.

@Teachforchange Don’t throw in the hat! I changed to incomplete and am now back under review. A ton of people changed last minute last year.

That being said…I’M FREAKING OUT. If mine doesn’t change by shortly after Midnight Wednesday I’m going to lose my mind. As that was last years theme. I’m so worried I never changed to complete like a ton of you. You all are obviously in, and I praaaaayyyy mine changes last minute like some peoples’ did.

My interview went the standard 30-40 minute time. She asked quite a few questions, and told me there’s an outline of questions every interviewee must answer (so I’m surprised some of you experienced different). I don’t feel like I got to really portray myself enough or my passion, because it seemed very formal and I answered every question very directly. UGHHHHHH

@teachforchange i’m in the same boat, haven’t had my documents reviewed (There’s no yes, no indication, nothing) and it has always been “under review”. I’m starting to lose hope as well, but at least you know that there are a few like you out here… :)

@Rgvgirl, I feel like she’s giving a very generic response to derail us from reading into the TF like crazy…Cause that same answer is also on the website FAQs, which i read about 10xs. lol.

@emac542…But at least you got some time of notification indicating your application was being reviewed? I dont have any ‘YES’ or ‘N/A’, just blanks at the moment. So you seem like youre in a good position.

@RoleModel…I’m trying! It’s hard when all we have to back up our questions is patterns that have been established on previous year’s TFA threads. And I guess we do have one more day for TF reviews (hoping thats true!) although it would be weird that some peoples status’ are bouncing around all over the place and nothing has happened with others, such as mine. Either way, I’ll still be seeing what happens on notification day

@emac542 you and I are in the same boat! I am praying that midnight Wednesday/Thursday AM brings good news because that is what’s giving me hope at this point since I also didn’t change to “complete” :(

@ townie01 Last year, I worked as a volunteer TFA recruiter for my campus Recruitment team. Then my recruiter told me to apply for this fellowship program that they just recently started. I applied and I got accepted. It’s called the Rising Leaders Fellowship. It’s in its second year, and basically they give you a TFA mentor and you have to design a program that serves lower income students. They also ran a summit for all of the fellows for us to meet in DC and help each other on our projects. It was an amazing experience. I decided to start a program that gives Philly high school students access to different social and academic events on my campus. I’m also trying to plan college visits to other universities as well but my mind has been focused on TFA for the past month haha! I have an exam tomorrow and I can’t even study! But I was really surprised that they didn’t ask me about my experience in the fellowship. If there was any question to ask, I would think it would be about that!

I’m also feeling a little weird because my recruiter offered me a “promotion” to be one of the campus CCC. So that would be a paid position instead of a volunteer one. When she made the offer, I was kicking myself saying so I should have waited to apply so I could have put that on my resume. I feel like if you work for TFA in any capacity that actually pays, you’re in! Now I’m double thinking whether I should accept because I don’t know if I can recruit for a program that doesn’t feel like I’m good enough to be in it…

@Rolemodel32 wow - what an amazing experience, thank you for sharing! Maybe they did not ask you many questions about this position or experience because they already know clearly what it entails? I wondered because I am a CCC and I did not talk about that whatsoever. The position is really rewarding in multiple aspects - it really grounds me in my school community and allows me to see how much potential is around me, and how my peers right here on campus have such ability to inspire change. It sounds like from what you said however that the CCC is more of a part time job while the Fellowship program is more of a leadership development program; in hindsight, I am not sure which one carries more weight in the admissions decision, so don’t stress about that!

@townie01 It’s funny that you say that because the fellowship is publicized as a leadership development program haha! But my interviewer did ask me about my work as a Student Ambassador. There really wasn’t much I could tell him other than the number of students Temple admitted to the corps and what things I did. Do you know if the CCC before you got accepted to TFA?

@explorer17 I am holding your hand through the inter-space! Let me know if yours changes!

@Rolemodel32 yes I have been working as a CCC since August but applied 2DL! We had a lot of work to do for the other deadlines

Hello all! My documents are still showing “YES” but status remains “UNDER REVIEW.” I was so paranoid about my status so I did some digging and came across interesting information.

Found one applicant with “COMPLETE” who was REJECTED. Strange break from the pattern.

1) Documents “YES” but Status “UNDER REVIEW”
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/internships-careers-employment/1383320-teach-america-2013-corps-11.html#post14968172</a></p>

2) Status “UNDER REVIEW” changed to “COMPLETE”
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/internships-careers-employment/1383320-teach-america-2013-corps-15.html#post14971125</a></p>

3) TFA REJECTION
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/internships-careers-employment/1383320-teach-america-2013-corps-51.html#post14999046</a></p>

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news or any confusion. This is an interesting case though and I’m not sure what to make of this.

Wellllll I’m back to stressing about TF again! I’m with the group who has verified documents, but status has always been under review.

@elemteacher next to “Documentation verifying current amount of Federal Student Loans” do you see parenthesis w/ your total loans?

i.e., “Documentation verifying current amount of Federal Student Loans (ABCXYZ)”

Some reported this showing up as an update and were subsequently accepted
Others did not
Probably nothing significant. Mine shows.

Thanks for the input @Teachtoreach~ Yeah my final interview was pretty short. We basically went over my resume, than she went over my transcript and asked a couple questions, than we did the role play and that was pretty much it. I felt like she thought I was a good fit but who know its hard to get a good read on them since she made me feel very comfortable during the interview. I guess I will just have to wait and see! lol

I just checked my TF Status again and my total student loan amounts are in parentheses next to my verified documents, this is a new thing for me since my TF Status changes back to Under Review

My loan amounts have been there for a while. I read something about that on the board too so I had checked it, but I figured it was nothing because it seemed so early. Like I’m pretty sure that was 4 or 5 days after my interview.

I don’t have student loans. No amounts to show :frowning: This is the first time I have regretted paying off my student loans.

@somanybanelings So I think the parenthesis you are talking about from last year’s group are something different entirely from the number amount of loans (eg 13500) next to the TF document. A little while before the decision came out (at times, minutes before–but not really days) people saw a weird change next to documents that would look like (912397024720174021747092) or something. All people who reported this were already “Complete”, but they all also got in. No one knew what the actual numbers represented though.
