Teach For America 2014 Corps

@explorer17: Ah, I’m from a little town right south of Raleigh! Fuquay-Varina. That’s one of the reasons I’m starting to get excited about LA Delta… I found a town there in one of the school districts called Tallulah, and it’s about the same size as Fuquay-Varina. I would love to go back to a small town like that again!

And @AmbitiousMe: Personal growth is a huge reason I’m looking forward to the big move. I’m a fairly independent person, but I’ve always been so close to my family that I can expect them to be there if I need anything. It will be good to make some big changes on my own.

I was placed in a region not on my preference list and was just informed by TFA that it was a mistake and I am being reassigned

@juliaf9: That’s crazy! Mine wasn’t on my list either, but they contacted me and said that Louisiana Delta sometimes reaches out for certain applicants…? Another lady emailed me and said she’s going to call me later and discuss it with me. I’m interested to hear what the reason was! I’m still just as excited though :)

@elemteacher I am excited for you! I remember the excitement of becoming familiar with a new city and state! I’m sure you’ll grow more than you know, meet some amazing people and do great things!!

Question: I am placed in Cleveland. Do I still have to interview at schools or will I be assigned a school?

is anyone headed to Los Angeles? :D

@letsgobucs Yeah you will have to interview to get the position. But it’s very rare that a corps member doesn’t get placed at a school. Those times only really happen if something extreme happens like Philadelphia’s recent mass layoffs. My interviewer described it as the schools trying to find out which one would fit you the best. Some people are hired after their first interview and others have to do a couple of interviews. But, odds are you will be working at a school at this time next year!!!

@piinkprinc3ss - only for institute

This is a big jump for me, I was raised in Raleigh, N.C., go to school in the DMV area and will move to Houston.

@blackneducated - Enjoy! I’ve heard great things about Houston!

I have my phone interview in a few hours. trying to remain calm

@stressedgrad8 good luck! I hear they are super informal. Mine is on Monday, so I’d be interested in how you felt it went!

@stressedgrad8 - Good luck! My interviewer made me feel super comfortable.
