@m2196452 I don’t think you have anything to be worried about. TFA just requires a transcript as official documentation of your education history. The GPA that you put down is the one that they are going to pay attention to. And in any case, I’ve heard that interviewers like to see progress when they look at your education history. I read an article about TFA’s selection that said it tells them more about you if your grades show a climb rather than someone who just got great grades throughout. That was my situation. I didn’t too great my first two years of college because I got caught up in other things haha. But when I transferred after taking a year off from school, I had my head together and my grades were excellent. My final interviewer even brought it up in our 1 on 1 interview. So you are actually in great shape!

@m2196452: As long as you have the minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 2.5 on your transcript, TFA will read your application and you have a shot - clearly you’ve made it this far already… I would just make sure to explain (in detail) your situation in the boxes where they ask if you received any F’s or have been on academic probation. Personally, I was on probation after I returned with my daughter, failed almost everything that semester, and was put on probation. I also switched my major a few times, not sure if I shared that though. Of course, like you I brought my grades way up and had a variety of leadership experiences - professional and otherwise… So there’s definitely hope. Just stress your connection with the 7 leadership traits and your passion to eliminate educational inequity. Use the STAR method to describe your experiences (situation, task, action, result). Good luck!!!

@Jessy13 It is definitely a big move for me, I am from North Carolina, but I go to school in D.C., I’m excited to experience a new city and region, the move though is going to be a long one lol!

For everyone who is moving to a region far away, have you thought about the moving process? Now that my celebratory phase is over, I realized I have NO idea how to move. The largest distance I’ve ever moved stuff was from Philly to Maryland. How are you guys planning to do it? Or are you just planning on taking a little bit of stuff and starting over in your region?

@m2196452 I also screwed up my first two years of undergrad. I hope my past doesn’t affect my future negatively. But if someone looks at my transcripts they will see progress - I went from a low student to a A/B student. Plus, I’ve gotten straight As in grad school.

@rolemodel132 I never received a personalized email or attended a TFA campus visit. I was never pressured to apply to TFA. I saw the mission online when I was job searching, thought it aligned with my beliefs and applied. I don’t think many people on my campus are even familiar with TFA.

When I graduate, I’m Goodwilling or throwing away all of my non-valuables (furniture, some appliances, etc.). I’ll probably box up my valuables and when my family comes for graduation have them take them back home. I’m originally from Chicago and would like to get placed there but if I get placed elsewhere I will probably get rid of anything that I don’t need for survival and just move via car. I would love to start over with new furniture, etc.

@RoleModel32. So I’ve moved quite a few times. I moved from NC to Boston for law school . And during law school moved from Boston to New Orleans for work and Boston to Charlotte for work. Usually the only thing that I really hold onto are my clothes. I fly Southwest so that I can take two large suitcases with me. I sometimes move with a friend so I can get them to bring extra luggage as well. For TFA I’m moving from Boston to Baton Rouge. And I really just plan on taking clothes and figuring it out when I get there. I’ve been making a list of apartments and amenities so I can hit the ground running. I also pack a few of my most important possessions. I usually only ship things to myself like my Keurig or my TV because I invested money in them. But it really is easier to start over.

@jdtobe I’m planning on a big move to Baton Rouge as well!! Moved from AL to NY for college, now I’ll be moving back down to SLA for TFA. For college I mostly just took clothes and made a massive Target run to get all the other things I needed, but I have accumulated a lot more personal stuff since being in college. The main thing I’m concerned about figuring out how to move is the couch I bought this year!! It wasn’t that expensive, but it’s pretty nice (OK, it’s from Wal-Mart lol, but it’s nice to me) and I wanted to put it in my new apartment. If anyone has suggestions about how to ship that cheaply I’m all ears! Otherwise, starting over :)

@rolemodel32 l’ll probably rent a uhaul because I have an expensive mattress that I can’t fathom giving or throwing away. I plan to buy all new furniture in my new region. I’ll be moving from St.Louis to Houston, so about a 12 hour drive- I hope to ship my car though. I graduate this December, so I will be working very hard and saving before the big move.

Has anyone heard anything about Pittsburgh opening up as a region? I saw that they were hiring a Director for Pitt and Idaho but I haven’t seen anything other than that. The posting said they were hoping to open it by Fall 2014, but the Director job posting was literally the only thing I have seen about it. Just wondering if any of you have heard this!

@Pastaholic I went to a TFA event at the end of the summer and they said they plan on making Pittsburgh a region. When I did my region preferences, I noticed it’s available to selec. That surprised me but I shouldn’t be since TFA is expanding like crazy! If you want to know more about it, I would recommend you talk to a recruiter. If a recruiter associate doesn’t know then a recruitment manager would. So you’re recruiter would find out for you. But if you really want to go there, I would select it!

It’s sad how quickly this thread died! 3DL, when are your final interviews/when do you hear if you got invited to one if you had a phone interview? Feel free to PM me for advice!

I don’t know about y’all but the wait is just as distracting for me now as it was before I even knew if I got in. I’m dying to hear more information about my region, testing, hiring, etc. And it’s way more fun to go on Pinterest and look at classroom ideas than do my schoolwork, lol :)

@southerngirl23, I agree this wait is hard too. I want to know in what sub region I’ll be placed so I can start looking for housing and all that. I’m also rally excited about hiring and meeting others who will be with me in my region. I want to know more about institute and where we will be staying. I think that with the acceptance deadline coming up we should start getting more info in the next couple of weeks.

We (3DL) find out this Wednesday (11/13) about whether we make it to the final interview. It’s crazy. I have been so distracted these past few weeks it’s insane. It’s crazy to think that just a month ago, I didn’t even anticipate this stress or anxiety, but I know in a few short days I’ll be that much closer to knowing my future. Ugh! I keep on going back and forth in regards to my application, phone interview and online activity. Every day I switch from being so confident to having no clue. The wait is killer!

Congrats to all you guys who have been accepted and to all of us 3DLs who are freaking out! Three more days!

Yeah there isn’t much now to do except for wait. The scheduling of final interviews doesn’t start until Wednesday from what I understand. Now I’m just kind of researching the different regions and seeing what areas might be good. I’m probably going more the midwest/northeast route personally as I would like to be closer to family and I prefer a more urban setting because I am at a rural place this year and I’m going stir-crazy haha. I also already have a teaching certificate so I’m looking at all of the states rules about reciprocity and things so I can see where it can work. Hopefully that would cut out some of the certification costs! Where is everyone else looking at?

This past week, my local recruiter had a get together for everyone in my region who had been accepted. It really calmed my nerves about everything, because I got alone with everyone so well! Even though we were all going to different regions, it’s very apparent that TFA seeks out people with certain personalities, and we all seemed to click very well. I hope that happens in my region as well, especially since it’s such a small one!

This thread HAS died down a lot! I think that many of the regions have Facebook pages for current members & alumni to connect.

@AmbitiousMe, I think when Wednesday gets closer and final interviews are released, its going to get a whole lot more busy, at least from what earlier posts suggest. I just have nothing but anxious things to say until then. I’m so jealous y’all did it earlier, I totally should have!

@elemteacher: What do you mean by certain personalities? I have this idea in my head from the seven characteristics and the videos, but did anything in particular stand out to you? That’s really awesome that your recruiter hosted that, I’m sure it made you feel a lot more comfortable and in solidarity with TFA. On a separate note, how did you deal with the anticipation?!

@elemteacher, something similar was hosted in my city, possibly by a recruiter but I wasn’t recruited so I’m not for sure. I couldn’t make it. I wish I had been able to meet others. Strangers don’t get what I’m feeling.

@m2196452, I think if you go into a Final interview you should just be yourself 100%. Either it’s what they’re looking for or it isn’t and if it isn’t, that’s okay. It doesn’t mean you aren’t awesome it just means it’s not a good fit right now.

@m2196452 – You’re right! If you all are even half as obsessed as we were this thread is about to explode! haha… I wish you all luck! We all know what it’s like to have your heart set on something. I definitely agree with Tinitafish about the final interview.
