Teach For America 2014 Corps

@elemteacher and @explorer17 just to clarify, when you say your status did not change does this mean 1) Status = “UNDER REVIEW” / Documents = “NOT Verified” - or - 2) “UNDER REVIEW” / “Documents = VERIFIED”

My documents have not been verified

@somanybanelings my status is under review and my documents are not verified.

I’m very anxiously sitting in the same boat as @elemteacher and @explorer17: “Under review” and documents are not verified.

I’m glad I’m not alone.

Also, I love the progress we are making on this thread today. So many posts, and I love it!

@elemteacher I completely agree about the progress we are making on the thread! It’s comforting to have a little virtual support group through this craziness! lol

I just told my roommate that my transitional funding status changed to complete! He just stared at me, not understanding what, if anything, he should feel about that. It’s nice to have people who understand. Though I was reading back through the 2013 thread and there was at least 1 person who’s status changed to complete and then was rejected.

Does anyone ever wonder if the TFA admittance team reads this thread and updates TF status just to mess with us? I think about this on the regular.

@Tinitafish that’s so awesome that yours changed to complete!! Congrats! Definitely a good sign. I personally didn’t apply for TF (even though I need it) because I know that I would freak out even more than I already am. It’s hard to concentrate on anything else! I’m glad we all have each other. I’m also curious about if TFA Admissions looks on this board. I’m sure they must, right?

Hey guys thanks for getting back to me about the document verification/status change. I guess tinitafish is the only one so far to respond with a positive. I’m a strange case since my documents are verified but I’m still “under review.” Quite confused as to whether I should be happy or not. Sigh. Was looking forward to next week but now I’m not so sure! But I imagine as more and more people respond w/in the next few days about their documents/overall status, we’ll get a clearer picture of the road ahead. // As for TFA I’m sure they do. Perhaps they’ve taken precautions this time around? Would make sense that they don’t want to give things away in advance though.

@tinitafish

I’m very happy for your positive TF sign! Time will only tell! Ah, I’m still waiting for mine to get verified. I believe I submitted my TF app on the last day (10/18).

How about you?

Also, to clarify, it’s not that I dont “need” the transitional funding, just to say that comparing my situation to a fresh grad with tons of student loans, I can’t imagine I would qualify.

This has been such an exciting yet nervewracking experience! My TF status is Under Review: We have not yet reviewed your application or documents. Not looking like a good sign right now, but it is still early.
It’s surprising to me that TFA would overlook such a huge indicator when they are very lock-and-key about everything else?
I looked at some of the posts from last year and 2012, and many people that got accepted found out their TF status the day before or day of, so we should all stay positive!
I also noticed that a lot of people that were posting on here got accepted, so hopefully this will be a good luck charm for us too :)

Hey ya’ll I’m new to the Thread…
I interviewed in DC, on the first Wednesday slot. My TF status is under review currently. For it to be 8 days from the decision date…I am extremely extremely extremely anxious!

Welcome @BLACKNEDUCATED ! I agree with everyone who said that this forum is a very real layer of support. I look forward to checking it everyday!

8 days till we find out if we were accepted or not! My interviewer didn’t say anything that made me think I am a sure “in”, but I feel like I was really able to display my passion at the end. I hope this helps!!

What did everyone put for regional preferences??

Hey guys and ladies!
So I have to write an eight page paper that should keep me busy for a couple of hours! lol One thing my mom taught me was to not stress about something that’s not in your control. Let your faith be strong and relax! With that in mind I’m setting a challenge for myself to NOT check on the transitional funding until Monday! I’m going to enjoy my weekend.

Hey Everyone!

I applied at the 2013 5th DL, was waitlisted, then early accepted for 2014. Big yay! But that was lots of waiting, and actually still waiting for official placement at the end of this month with you all. So good luck!

Also wanted to add my 2 cents from last year on TF status. If your status changed, then you’re IN - Congrats! If your status did NOT change, then they have up until the decision date to change it - Hope is not lost  They complete those on a rolling basis. I don’t think that Document Review changes have any bearing, but not sure on this. TF status is a good indicator. We had people email staff last year and ask, the official word is that it is not an indicator BUT we absolutely were able to draw correlations between those who reported changes and actual acceptances. Only one person said theirs changed and was not accepted, but they were confusing TF status with document review (if you read the thread you should see their confusion).

If anyone has questions, I’m happy to give an opinion. I’m also glad to see some of the other early accepted ppl from last year on this board as well. Someone asked about our chances of getting our first placement choices and I’ve been told we’re highly likely to get our first choice, as are the other applicants applying at early deadlines.

Also, other early accepted CMs - are you all engaging with TFA this year? I’m in Chicago, and hoping to stay but I got involved in their social entrepreneurship cohort that just started that’s for CMs or alumni. Wasn’t sure if they would allow me to participate since I haven’t begun yet but they were ecstatic to have me. Maybe you guys could get involved in some way as well. Ironically, the same person who interviewed & selected me is also in the cohort, absolutely remembered me, and has been a great influence and friend thus far. So yes interviews depend on individual style, but if you make a connection that’s got to be a good thing.

@BLACKNEDUCATED, TFAHopeful21, Disneyguy and anyone else who is still under review like me…I think only one status on this thread changed to “complete” so far so I think we shouldn’t stress at this point. If last year is any indicator, perhaps TF changes to “complete” based somewhat on when you interviewed/submitted the TF application. I interviewed on Thursday, 10/17 and submitted TF on 10/18 (with some documents to follow on 10/19), so I’m not expecting mine to change any time soon…though I’d really love it if it did!

@SweetPresh, what a great goal/outlook! Good for you! I don’t think I have the self-control to stop myself from checking TF for that long, but trying to relax about it is a great idea.

@townie01 I preferenced NY and Northern NJ in highly preffered, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Northern NY and DC in preferred, and Baltimore and Memphis in least preferred. I am very Northeast heavy because I am currently in New York City and have family circumstances to stay in the area. I would still consider doing TFA if admitted elsewhere, but I’d have a lot of soul searching to do!

@toots99k thanks for the input on TF status and welcome back to the discussion! Congrats on your acceptance as well :)

I hadn’t even noticed the TF status until I started reading posts about it and investigated. I kinda wish I hadn’t seen it, I’m so much more anxious now!! The suspense is killing me!

My top choice is NYC and I’m really nervous that even if I am admitted I won’t get the location I want. I really have my heart set on NYC. I interviewed there on the 14th and nearly everyone in my group and the other group had chosen NYC as their top choice. I did apply for the first deadline and I offered specific reasons related to my family situation for wanting that location, so keeping my fingers crossed.

I just wanted to talk about my actual interview. Both my phone and final personal interview ran about an hour long. During the phone interview (which was about 25 minutes of questions and answers) I was sure to ask as much as I could to my interviewer. She was very nice and stayed on the line an extra 30 minutes to talk to me about her experience and answer questions and describe her experience. I had the same thing happen during my personal interview- I answered a question or two following the role play and then we talked about her experience and touched on why I want to work with lower-income students in the classroom. I think that it is important to connect with your interviewer and be sure that they remember who you are. Listen to what they are saying while you are in large group and then bring some of that information and knowledge into the personal interview and get more in-depth perspective on things. This is not an indication of me getting in or not but just something I noticed is that I get really engaged with the interviewer and they have been very happy and willing to speak with me which I think was very nice regardless of my acceptance.

I had many questions about the transition after acceptance. My interviewer and I talked about how moving to the new area is like and how you have time to move during the weekends while in institute but it also matters on how far you originally live to where institute is. I am graduating this semester so once I get in then I would be able to apartment hunt during winter and spring semester, for example.

I have no change in my transitional funding status or documentation. I am not sure on how to feel on my acceptance but overall the application and interview process have been the best that I have experienced thus far and I really enjoyed myself. Good luck to everyone; just 8 more days!

@klh034, I am in the exact same situation! I interviewed in NYC on 10/17 and also really do need to stay in the area because of family circumstances, although, if I got placed in Newark or somewhere else in the tri-state area I might be able to make it work, since I could get home easily on weekends (Newark, I think, would even be commutable). I’m keeping my fingers crossed for all of us!
