Teach For America 2014 Corps

TFAHopeful - I interviewed after you (12/5) and have not received a survey.

May0914 - I was granted early notification because I have an offer from TNTP. I’ll know something Monday. I can at least serve as proof or negation that the TF status change actually means something :)

@TFAHopeful29 When I interviewed, the survey didn’t come to me until a week so later so don’t worry about it :)

@tnbaileyTFA I think that’s the reason why they ask for two recommenders PLUS a reference. I doubt you’re the only person that happened to so don’t worry about it. When I talked to TFA staff member, he told me that they score you against their 7 competencies. In your final interview, you weren’t able to articulate everything that relates to those values, so your recommender and your reference are intended to give your final interviewer a more complete picture of you. I know some people mentioned that they weren’t given a chance to explain how passionate they are about this kind of work in their final interview, including me. But I know my three references could comment on that for me. So don’t worry. As long as your reference and recommender are solid, then you should be fine!

@spedteacher84 I’m not sure how accurate that TF status is. I actually haven’t submitted all of my documentation and mine says complete and I think has for a while, perhaps ever since I submitted it. What did it say for y’all before?

I interviewed 12/5 and didn’t get a survey yet, but I did get a TFA Admissions e-mail that I assume everyone got.

My friend who is in TFA said the lesson was the least important part, but I don’t know where she got that info.

New to this board. I completed my final interview about a week ago. My lesson plan went great (TFA staff gave me great compliments on it), the group part went good, and personal interview not sure they’re really hard to read as they are just typing away, just a little worried that everyone got 45 mins and I only got 25:/

I wish I had to time machine so I can travel to January 9th, 2014. Haha.

I am interested in teaching high school physics and/or math.

My highly preferred regions are the Bay Area, Sacramento, LA, and San Diego.

In 1DL and 2DL nearly everyone who’s TF status chanfed to complete was accepted. There were a couple who changed early and were not accepted. I think what was more indicative is that it changed back to under review and back to complete the say of notification. For some people it changed to complete for the first time the day of notification.

@broct1 My TF status says complete on the main page, but it says under review when I click on the actual status. The consensus seemed to be from past deadlines that if your TF status changed to complete that there was a high likelihood that you were accepted. Logically this makes sense to me because I don’t know why they would take the time to review TF status if you’re not accepted. However, I know this wasn’t 100 percent accurate.

Does anyone know of anyone whose TF status didn’t change to complete, but was still accepted?

@DrPhysics My personal interview was only 25 minutes, which has made me nervous too because other interviewees had 40 minutes and longer too. I feel like the rest of the day went well so I’m trying not to over think this.

Hey everyone! new to this thread, couldn’t take the wait until we find out any longer! @TFAHopeful26, I noticed this morning that my status on my homepage also said “complete” but when I get to the TF status it still says “under review” also. I can’t remember if it always said “complete” on my homepage or if it said “submitted” before and just changed?!

TF clarification:

Change to complete on the main page = No hint at all
Change to complete on TF status page = Accepted

The only ppl who reported changes that weren’t accepted, were those who reported changes in the main page. Switching to under review doesn’t have any bearing on acceptance as some ppl who went to complete on the TF status page never switched back and forth; some did though. But as long as it says complete on the TF status page (not the main page), you are fine and CONGRATS!!!

Those who do not see a change on their TF status page should not worry though. Changes happen ALL the way up to the deadline. Some ppl saw changes the day of…

@spedteacher84 congrats on getting accepted to TNTP, I’m actually applying for that as well. And it makes sense that your TF changed so early, your process is just more rapid than everyone else’s. Good luck in which ever program you choose.

@broct1 I agree with @TFAHopeful29. Maybe your looking at the main page (the one that appears once you sign in). The change in TF that everyone is talking about is on the TF page (you have to click on it to actually see it).

@TFAHOPEFUL: Don’t worry about your interview time length. Previous deadline consensus seems to be the number varied greatly among accepted ppl. Mine’s went long - 60 minutes. Other ppl definitely went short - 20-25 mins. I’m thinking 40 mins is just an average.

@TNBAILEY: Don’t worry about your recommenders, as long as you’re confident in their ability to articulate those competencies… One of my recommenders submitted their rec at least 7 days past the deadline. I was concerned and emailed TFA. They said just have them submit it as soon as they can. Not really a big deal to them, as ROLEMODEL said, they have tons of other pieces of data and info on you, plus your reference. Don’t worry!

“Those who do not see a change on their TF status page should not worry though. Changes happen ALL the way up to the deadline. Some ppl saw changes the day of…”

I am hoping this is the case for those that will receive early notification too. I was offered a placement with TNTP and so will find out on Monday about my TFA status but am starting to get nervous because my TF status still says “under review.”

Hey all, I’m new to the site. I’ve been lurking around it for a couple of days, checking out how others are dealing with the post-3DL anxiety. I interviewed in Los Angeles on Dec. 3rd. My lesson could have went a lot better, but overall, it wasn’t too bad. I received an email regarding my Transitional Funding status this morning. Seems that I have to provide them with additional documentation before, according to them, they are able to give me an award(?) Can anyone decipher what this may mean? The deadline to submit all funding related documents, based on the email, is Feb 13th. That’s more than a month AFTER the January 7th marker. Wouldn’t make any sense if I were rejected. My status changed from “under review” to “incomplete” this morning—11:03am—actually, exactly when I refreshed it…random, ha. Maybe this is an adhere to the deadline, if accepted, disregard if rejected sort of thing? No clue. Based on past cycles, does anyone know what this change may indicate, if anything?

Thanks!

AsTallasLions - I was also asked to submit additional documentation (my loan info didn’t have my name clearly visible on it). So mine wnt from under review to incomplete and then to complete 12 hours or so after I submitted the extra documentation.

As far as length of interview, I went in early and didn’t even think to look at the time when I went in or when I left. No idea how much time I took. One less thing to stress over!

Hey, thanks for replying.

I just uploaded the documents they requested of me. It now says “Under Review” again. I asked a friend who is in TFA now, and she said she didn’t know if it had any bearing on whether or now I was accepted. It just makes no sense to me to ask me for additional documentation for transitional funding if I were rejected, but again, I don’t know. I’ll just have to wait and see.

Ah, I see about the TF thing now.

I never submitted the additional documentation and didn’t receive an e-mail asking for more like others have (and like my friend who interviewed the day after me did), so I don’t think that bodes well for me.

I haven’t submitted additional documents (tax forms, fafsa) yet and I did not get an email either. Those of you who got an email, was is specifically for these documents or other ones? I figured they wouldn’t ask for it yet since the final deadline for TF isn’t until February.

Out of curiosity, what does a “YES” mean next to my TF document categories? I have YES next to each one but it’s not centered under the “Document(s) Verified by Transitional Funding” column; it’s between the first two columns. Does anyone else have this/know what this means? (My status is still Under Review)

The wait has me speculating about everything!

@paigeorose92 mine says the same thing, I’m almost certain it’s just a glitch (the whole being directly under verified thing), I wouldn’t stress too much about it. Yes means that they have recieved the document that correlates with the category.

I did get an email saying that I needed to submit a signed letter stating my dependency, my TF went from incomplete, (then I got the email and submitted said document) and it went back to under review. There is also a yes next to all of my documents.

@Pastaholic do you think you should have uploaded extra documents, meaning did the information you presented in your TF app need verification?

Yeah I just haven’t uploaded my supporting documents yet. The first four pages of my most recent tax return or the copy of my FAFSA which I don’t have since I haven’t been in school for the 2013-2014 year.

But I haven’t received an email saying that I need to upload these and it appears that some people did receive emails asking for additional documents. I was just wondering if these particular documents were the FAFSA/tax returns which I would think indicate an interest in getting the candidate’s documents in place so they can disperse the TF when they are accepted.

But hopefully I’m just reading into it too much! After all, the deadline for TF is still far away!

Oh wait, looking back at the forum, I saw that someone’s email asking for additional documentation was to submit student loan docs with his/her name on it since the original that was submitted didn’t have it. I think spedteacher84 said that. I was just worried they were emailing applicants to submit the standard Tax return, etc. and I didn’t get an email. But nevermind, I was just being panicky for no reason haha. Is it Jan 9th yet? LOL
