Teach For America 2014 Corps

@may0914 This is driving me crazy as well! Looking at the 2DL acceptances (page 78ish on) applicants for TF that had all their documents verified were pretty much accepted. But why does it say YES next to all of them when my status is still under review? It’s messing with my head…

My TF status says “complete” as of yesterday after I emailed the documents they requested. Additionally, I also qualified for Early Notification so I find out Monday! So nervous. My Highly Preferred Regions were Atlanta, Nashville, and Charlotte with hopes to teach Bilingual Education, Spanish, or ESL. Hopefully it will be good news come Monday!

Out of curiosity, did many of you skip the phone interview? Or did most of you had to participate in one?

Best of luck to everyone!

@Bahama32 I have to submit something that says that I’m independent.

I see, Bank statement or tax return? I submitted most of those things last week…Anybody take the Spanish test and still haven’t gotten a response?

I went through all application and interviewing steps. A lot of questions in my final interview were based on my phone interview responses, so I feel like doing both gave me more of a chance to get across my personality, goals, etc.

Does anyone know if TFA typically contacts the person you list as a reference (in addition to your two recommendation writers), or if it’s just in case they have additional questions?

@Bahama32 I guess they just want a tax return or statement stating my status.

I skipped the phone interview. However, like spedteacher said, I believe going through the phone interview gives you an edge when you get to the final interview. I almost think that I should have had a phone interview, it seemed like they had a lot of stuff to ask me (my personal interview went over the time limit, I spent a good hour with my interviewer).

@paigeorose I was looking for something like that, thanks.

this wait<<<<

did any of you apply for TNTP (other than those who were accepted, I’m trying to get a feel for their interview process) or city year, these are two programs that I am also considering.

For those of you who have considered teaching abroad I’d also look into Teachforall.org, it has TFA type programs for over 20 countries.

@may0914 for TNTP I applied for the first Nov deadline. I Found out I was offered a phone interview less than 2 weeks after applying and found out I was accepted 2 weeks after my phone interview. The phone interview was exactly 25 minutes and mostly consisted of role play scenarios that required implementing what I learned from articles I had to read. There was not time for any questions at the end. There wasn’t an in person interview for the city I was being considered for, but I’m not sure if that is the same for every location.

I was put straight through to the final interview and didn’t have an official phone interview. However, a TFA alum had reached out to me at the beginning of the application process to schedule a 30 minute informational call. The TFA alum said he would be able to write notes in my file based on that call and said the call could aid in the decision of whether or not I moved forward in the application process. That could possibly be why I didn’t have an official phone interview.

@TFAHopeful29 I also had a TFA alum/recruiter give me an informational call too. In fact she’s called and emailed me several times since with helpful tips and suggestions.

I thought about applying to TNTP but I already have a teaching license - I read online somewhere that you can’t apply if you already have a license.

Did anyone take the Spanish test last week? we are suppose to get the results today if we passed or not. I haven’t gotten an email or anything. :/

@stressedgrad8 Did you go straight through to the final interview or did you have an official phone interview too? I believe during TNTP application process it said if you were already a licensed teacher you could still apply, but you would be VERY limited on the locations and subject/grade levels you could be placed in so I got the impression it wasn’t encouraged.

So, if you’re accepted, when do you find out exactly where you’ll be in your region? If I get in and placed in one of my highly preferred regions my husband will start looking for a job in the area and we’ll start looking for housing. But that’s kind of hard to do if your region covers a pretty big area. I wonder how far ahead of time you find out exactly what metro/town/field you’ll be in.

@spedteacher Once you are invited to a region, you still have to interview at different schools to be hired. TFA only suggests that you interview at schools that would need a teacher for the position that you specialized in/are able to teach.

Basically what I’m saying is they don’t have regions within regions, of course corps members end up working together in the same school; however, this is not the work of TFA

Never got my Spanish test results…Anybody get them?

Hey guys! I’ve been following this thread for the 1 and 2D people, but it’s time for 3D to shine B)

I was wondering if those “rumors” I was reading about were true, that if your status changes to ‘Complete’ then you have a really great chance of getting in?

@TFASDHopeful Glad to have you with us!

Evidence from past DLs suggests that yes, if your Transitional Funding status changes to complete then it is very likely that TFA accepted you. This was not always the case (as a very few number of people said their status was complete the entire time), but it is possible these individuals were looking at the main page on their applicant portal and not the transitional funding page. When you log in to TFA’s website and go to your application and scroll down, you’ll see your TF status says “complete”. If you click on that your Transitional funding status will either say Under Review, Incomplete or Complete. Additionally, people have been getting emails asking for more documentation which is a good sign for them as well.

Personally, my documents are all verified with a YES next to them but my status is still under review. Previous DLs had their status change all the way up to right before they got their decision, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. It’s just really fun to speculate about it. :slight_smile:

Hope this helps!

@paigeorose92

Thank you for the speedy reply! I didn’t want to get my hopes up because my TF does now say complete. I’m just anxious because I really would like to be put in San Diego near my fiance, but I really wouldn’t want to give up an opportunity like this because this is more for the children than myself, but it’d be nice right? Haha. But thanks, I’ve been trying not to view my app till Jan 9th since I’m too excited! Where were your top choices?

@TFAHopeful29 I did have a phone interview.

It would be interesting to know what factors they use to decide who gets a phone interview and who moves straight through to the final interview. My personal interview was only about 25 minutes so I actually would have liked to have a phone interview to have more time to talk about everything I wanted to.
