Teach For America 2014 Corps

Hey y’all, I was accepted to the Greater New Orleans-Louisiana Delta 2014 Corps 2DL and just wanted to jump back on the board. I hope you are all distracting yourselves & not refreshing your TF page every five minutes like I was the entire time :)

Just to calm some of your nerves - especially @may0914 and @paigeorose92 that I’ve seen post about this, my status was Under Review and didn’t change to Complete until around 8:30am the morning of notifications. I did, however, have my documents verified pretty early (YES’s next to the documents on the TF page). I’m also just a data keeper, so I kept track of everyone’s changing notifications, and everyone who had verified documents or status changes to Incomplete at some point ended up being accepted. I honestly don’t think they’d take the time to go through and verify documents if they haven’t placed you… because your TF amount does depend on how far you’re moving as well.

Good luck, everyone!

Hey fellow 3DLs!!! This waiting is going to kill me! Luckily finals and the holidays offer some sort of distraction!

I just wanted to let others know that I have not received the results of my Spanish test yet either, I hope they send that back soon since I highly preferred Spanish.

Also, my transitional funding went from under review to complete yesterday! :)

Hi all,

Hope everyone is doing well.

I went straight to a final interview but didn’t apply for TF so no hints there (now sort of wishing I had so I had some hints like you guys!). I preferenced NY and NJ the highest because my husband is in school there and can’t move till 2015. I preferenced ECE and early elm for subjects. I am coming out of graduate school with my PhD - it’s nice to read about others who aren’t following the “traditional” route to TFA. I honestly didn’t really realize how common that is.

Less than 4 weeks till we learn what is to come!

@EDUforALL, I have also been surprised at how many aren’t coming straight out of undergrad. There were 11 people at my final interview and only half were undergrads, the rest career changers.

@elemteacher, are you teaching elementary in the Delta subregion? I read through a lot of this board in the past week looking for confirmation that the TF funding thing might be true. Mine has gone from Under Review to Incomplete to Complete and I’ll find out if I’m in on Monday (I was granted early notification because of a competing offer from TNTP). NOLA/LA Delta was my second choice region with Southern Louisiana being my first.

@spedteacher84, wow that would have been a little intimidating for me. My final interview had two guys and 10 girls…all of us were undergraduates! It definitely put me more at ease teaching the 5 minute lesson since everyone was my age

I have also been surprised by how many applicants aren’t coming straight out of undergrad. This is actually my second time applying to TFA. When I applied several years ago everyone in my final interview was an undergrad. This time around about half of us in my final interview had graduate school and/or work experience. I have heard that TFA has been trying to make more of an effort to reach out to career changers and other non traditional applicants. Maybe that is why there seems to be more of us not coming directly out of undergrad.

Yeah my interview had about half undergrads, half people already out of school. From those, 2 of us were already working in schools and the other worked in government. It was also 50/50 with men and women which was surprising to me. I figured there would be mostly women.

I also went directly to the final interview. I didn’t have anyone call me though to prep! But I never spoke with a recruiter or anything either so it was my first time there. I think things went okay, my interview was cut off at 40 minutes exactly but I think that’s because we had horrible weather and she still had 2 interviews to go and she didn’t want to make anyone wait or have to sit around in the bad weather.

@spedteacher84: Yes, I’ll be teaching elementary there! And good luck to you today! The change to Complete is definitely a good sign. But even after mine changed to complete the morning of, I tried not to get too excited just in case something crazy happened. I hope you get one of your top two choices in LA!

Thanks @ elemteacher! I’m approaching TF change the same as you did - hoping it’s a good sign but trying not to think too much about it or assume anything.

@TFAHopeful29 - one more day. I wonder what time they’ll send out notifications.

@spedteacher84 I’m hoping they send the notifications out earlier in the day. I’m going to try my best not to check my email every 5 minutes tomorrow! I’m actually going to have a busy day at work tomorrow so I’m hoping that makes the time go by quickly!

@spedteacher84 - And by today, I meant tomorrow… :)

Does anyone know how long they can take to verify documents? None of mine have changed yet, but it is still over three weeks until January 9.

hi everyone! I noticed some people didn’t get their spanish test results Friday. I still haven’t gotten mine, any updates from someone who took it also?!

Good luck to everyone receiving early notification tomorrow. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long tomorrow!

@TFAHopeful29 - I think it’s just you and me finding out today. Have you seen any change in your TF yet?

My subconscious apparently doesn’t know what to think apparently. Saturday night I had a dream that I got accepted to my top preferences (Southern Louisiana/Elementary SPED). Then last night (after stalking boards and obsessing about TF) I dreamed that my TF changed to Incomplete at the last minute with a message that told me that I wouldn’t get accepted because there was a problem with my TF application. Weird.

I have a full day today with all of my students, plus I start working at after school today, so hopefully the day will go by quickly!

Good luck!

@spedteacher84 I think there was one other person who mentioned early notification. My status changed to complete Thursday so hopefully that is good sign. We will know for sure in a few hours!

Good luck to everyone who gets notified today!

My heart dropped into my stomach when I saw an email from TFA Admissions show up in my mailbox a few minutes ago. Alas, it was just the survey about the final interview. Uggg…

me too! So far being busy at work has not helped the day go by quickly!

@Spedteacher84 sometimes I get the feeling they do that on purpose, haha. Good luck to you and @TFAHopeful29 :)
