HIMYM14 mine just did too…

@TFAHopeful29 - mine too! Strange.

$14,000 for certification in Baltimore!!! Jeeze!! That is bonkers! I live in Baltimore and listed it as my 1st choice… I better start saving my coins just in case.

@wanderlust685 I didn’t realize that Baltimore certification costs were so steep either. However, the districts do offer tuition reimbursement in exchange for teaching additional years and there is the potential for up to $11,000 in Americorps awards. Both of these options would significantly bring down the cost.

@wanderlust685 I’d be curious to hear more about your thoughts on Baltimore? What do you like about living there and what don’t you like about living there? My first choice was DC and I highly preferred Baltimore because it’s still within an hour of DC. However, I don’t know a lot about the city itself and I would be interested in hearing more about it from someone who lives there.

hey all! I have just joined this site after creeping on it for hours last night. I just learned about the whole TF status change and now am obsessing over it (not good especially since we still have 3 weeks left!!). I got an email asking me to resubmit a document for TF and all my documents were verified today. but my TF status still says under review. I hope no one can see how often Ive logged on at admission bc I would be sooo embarrassed.

Welcome @pschool50! I started freaking out about TF status when I found this board too. I think that the three of us on here who got DL3 early notification all had ours change to complete prior to being accepted. Where and what are you hoping to teach?

oh, okay. That helps. I noticed in the 1st/2nd DL the majority of those rejected had no change in verification or anything. My first pref are ENC and Miami. I would love to teach english/language arts to middle or HS.

@spedteacher84 Have you made a decision on what program you are going to accept yet?

@pschool50, I currently work at a school in Raleigh so I’m familiar with the ENC area and schools if you have any questions!

@TFAHopeful29, I’m about 98% sure I’ll go with TFA. My TNTP offer is for Greater NOLA/Baton Rouge and TFA is for Southern Louisiana, so location isn’t much of an issue. The deciding factor for my husband and I will most likely be the fact that TNTP does not provide room and board during pre-service and training while TFA does. Also, I think my certification costs will be less through TFA since I’m almost through an MAT program and have completed core education coursework.

I am also strongly leaning toward TFA now. While, I would still prefer to be in DC, I am unsure about the support I would receive through the fellows program based on my communications with them. I was told from my contact at TNTP that they couldn’t put me in touch with a current fellow to ask questions because of the high volume of candidates, but I would have the opportunity to meet other fellows through sponsored events after I accepted the offer. I honestly do not know if I feel comfortable accepting an offer without having the ability to speak with somebody currently in the program.

@TFAHopeful29 Baltimore is like any other city - it has its good areas and its bad areas. I’ve lived here my entire life, so I’ve experienced both sides. I also attended the public schools here in Baltimore, so I can tell you firsthand how out of control the students are! If you do decide to teach in Baltimore, I think something that you should be aware of is the crazy amount of young people who either live or have lived in foster at some point in their lives which has obviously affected them.
Do you live in DC now? If you become a part of TFA, will you be moving to Baltimore? If so, you should move in the Mount Vernon area which is the artsy part of the city. Charles Village, which is close to John Hopkins, is also a cool part of town but if you make a wrong turn, you’ll be in one of the worst areas in the city. The people here aren’t nice but aren’t mean either. If you move to the areas that I mentioned, you’ll be around more people who aren’t originally from here so they’ll be more friendly. Baltimore can be a cool place if you fall in with the right people :)

My TF status has switched back to Under Review too.

@wanderlust685 Thanks for the honest feedback. I really appreciate it. I’ve gotten a lot of mixed reviews about the city, but mostly from people who have just passed through the city. They haven’t actually lived there. I currently live in the city of Milwaukee and so I would be moving to Baltimore. Milwaukee is similar in that there are a lot of great neighborhoods, but you have to be aware of what street you are on because a few blocks one way or one street over that way and it changes dramatically. I am in DC a lot for my job and have a lot of friends in DC, which is why DC was my first choice. However, DC is just a short train ride away from Baltimore so I know I could go there on weekends if I wanted to.

@spedteacher84 I live in fayetteville (about 45 mins from Raleigh) and absolutely love the Raleigh area.

@spedteacher84, are you getting your certification for teaching in NC? I’m from NC, but currently in VA finishing up an MAT program. I’m going to LA Delta and I was told that I don’t have to take any additional tests, because all of mine are the same as Louisiana’s. I was pretty surprised that I don’t even have to take a state history course or anything for elementary… but apparently I’ll be able to bring my certification there, fill out paperwork, and be done! Hopefully it will be just as easy for you.

@stressedgrad8 hmm thats interesting, so all 3 of us had TF complete and now its under review again.

Does anyone have their TF say complete?

I’m getting nervous. My TF status never changed to complete, it’s still under review…

@may0914 mine never changed to complete either. Some people in past DLs had theirs change the day of (and even hours before) notification, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

I wonder if the changes from complete to under review have to do with the scheduled maintenance? Just a thought.

My TF status changed to complete on the 11th after I was asked to resubmit one document and has remained complete since. Still nervous though!!!
