I know we’ve been discussing the correlation between TF status and acceptance/rejection, but I’m also interested in the correlation between phone interview or going directly to the final interview and acceptance/rejection?

@ TFAHopeful21, I have been wondering the same thing. I got invited directly to the final interview, but my boyfriend, who also applied for TFA, had a phone interview first. My thinking is that getting invited directly to the final is awesome in terms of getting over the initial hump, but once we’re at the final interview, we’re all on the same page in terms of chances. Thoughts?

@explorer17 I agree - I was also invited to the final interview directly but I don’t think there is any correlation between that and your admissions decision. I think it just means that on paper you exhibit the desired qualifications adequately enough without having to go into more detail about them.

Hi everyone! This is my first time posting, but I’ve been acting really creepy looking at all of the posts for a while now. I had my final interview last Monday, I felt really good about it when I left and now I feel like it went horribly (ugh!). But I guess I’ll have to wait until Halloween to find out.

I wanted to ask you guys a couple of questions (my tf status is under review btw), one is did anyone put Washington State as a preference and have you been invited to a webinar? The other question is about the TF status thing, I got an e-mail on the 17th from Transitional Funding and Grants, stating that there was an error on the page and that the FAFSA forms that they needed were 2013/2014, on the TF page it says 2012/2013 (and it still says that on my page). They said a lot of people were having trouble accessing their FAFSA info because of the gov’t shutdown also (I didn’t have any issues getting my info from FAFSA), and that if that was the case not to worry because I could turn in papers up until Dec. 5th.

So I was curious as to whether anyone else recieved this e-mail? This is so nerve wrecking, I’ve been trying to keep myself busy, but my mind stays stuck on TFA, I think regardless, the whole process has taught me that I really want to teach in a community that mirrors my community. And I will get my credentials anyway, and apply for jobs in those areas when I’m finished. Anyway, I hope that you all are not feeling as anxious as I am, and that you are getting through each day with the hope of different possibilities and a positive attitude. It’s pretty cool that we’re all here on this post because of a shared passion and common goal. Cool peoples!

I was not invited to the interview directly. At first, I thought this would be a negative thing, but since I got to talk to both my phone interviewer and final interviewers I think it was for the best. And I kind of got a practice interview before the final in a way. Looking at last years board though, I did notice that a lot of people who were accepted had been directly invited to the final. (Yes, I creeped the board hard enough to figure this out… I like to have stats. Ha ha) But hopefully we will all be good!

And to @mangostreet05- I also got the email, even though I had already submitted my tax form instead of the FAFSA.

@elemteacher, I’m also statistical person, so I noticed the same thing about last year’s board. I wasn’t invited directly to the final interview either, so I was kind of discouraged, but I felt the phone interview helped me better prepare for the final interview. I guess we’ll see if all of our research is proven in 8 days!

Still no TF status update…

@toots99k - First off, congrats! Glad to see things turned out well for you. At least you’re done with this entire waiting game so you can be free to explore your options before the start of the school year. I just wanted to ask for clarification - so only 1) “TF Status - COMPLETE” is an indication of a positive? If 2) “TF Documentation - COMPLETE/YES” then this means nothing?

My documents all have a “YES” but I’m still “Under Review” and I’m not sure what this means. Some people in TFA2013/2012 forums later confirmed acceptance on notification day but not many people were in this situation, and your comment leads me to doubt whether this change was initially a good sign. I’m sure you interacted with a lot more people than I did so please let me know what you think! I’ve been trying to find your reference to the one person who said their’s changed, do you happen to know if this was TFA2013 or TFA2012?

@Blackneducated and @mangostreet05 - Just to clarify, does this mean your documentation also has no changes (i.e., “NO/YES/BLANK”) and your status is “Under Review,” or do you see changes in your documentation as well? I’m sorry if I am being so forward. I am just trying to get a picture of how this thing system works. Seems like there’s a lot of variability in what people are reporting.

–

Regional Placement - I put mostly the southern states (Alabama, Arizona, Texas, etc.) because I have a lot of family here. I would have liked to move elsewhere–especially Hawaii–but circumstances at this point don’t allow for this kind of move.

Phone/Final Interview - I received a phone interview to begin with as well. I completely forgot to ask the other candidates whether they got placed right in, however, I think the experience was well worth it. They ask similar questions, etc. and having gone through it once when the stakes are not as “high” I think it makes for excellent practice!

I was not invited directly to the final interview and was accepted. I believe they said it makes no difference once you are at the final interview. The only comment us 2013s had on this is that the phone interview ends up being great preparation for the final interview and another opportunity to connect with staff.

When we discussed TFA reaching out for webinars etc, we concluded that most, but not all, people were invited to something and it did NOT seem to have any bearing on decisions. However, some people received personal emails from staff and/or phone calls from a particular region, and that seemed to indicate acceptance. But we weren’t as conclusive on this as we were regarding TF status.

On TF status: If it says complete on the status page I believe that only meant you had submitted all your documents. When the actual TF page switches from Under Review to Complete - that is the change you are looking for. Anyone else want to chime in on that be as I was trying to check on my page I discovered they just dumped my info from 2013 and I am now late for applying for TF at all.

I am definitely happy to no longer wait for notification of acceptance, but I am still waiting for my placement like you all! We originally got notification in April. So it’s been a test of my patience. But after you wait for days, and then weeks, and then months… I’m anxious but I’ve managed to wean myself off the site every day lol.

@elemteacher and @TFAHopeful21 I’m also statistically inclined, so I am definitely curious about whether there is any correlation between acceptance and folks who were invited directly to the final interview vs. a phone interview first. I propose that this year, when we post out results, we also include a section about whether or not the candidate was invited directly to the final interview…hopefully this will help future candidates! (Or maybe it will just give them one more thing to obsess over, LOL).

@Tinitafinish I can’t believe your status changed! When did you interview and when did you submit your documents? My documents aren’t even verified and I interviewed on the 14th. QUESTION: for everyone whose application is still under review, does anyone’s say documents are verified but their application is still under review? I’m so nervous now.
@Explorer17 I’m still under review obviously as well. From your posts about what your interviewer said you sound like a shoe in so I wouldn’t worry.

I’m glad I read all these posts this morning and not last night or I wouldn’t have been able to sleep.

I just finished reading all the recent posts and actually whispered out loud “This is hell”. haha! I truly hope we all find out our status early, and that anxiety doesn’t eat us alive. I am very happy for those of you who sound like you had a really positive experience, several of you I am convinced will definitely get in. However, I, like a few others, feel better telling myself I have slim chances. I’d rather try and quell my disappointment if I can. I too keep replaying it and thinking of things I wish I had said or hadn’t or had acted more passionate and less professional.

It’s hard but we all did our best. And as we know, they have a formula for this decision. The put over 30 input about 30 pieces of data and retrieve a hiring recommendation for each individual. It’s not a matter of if they liked us, it’s down to a science. We did the best we could do and we all are very obviously motivated, socially-conscious thinkers who have bright futures that we can begin building at TFA, or we can - and will - begin elsewhere. 8 more days!

Did anyone here get a follow up email from their recruiter/rep the Monday after the interview?

Even if it’s totally random and doesn’t mean much, I still found it to be a nice gesture during this very stressful waiting period.

@ emac542 thanks for the vote of confidence! I’m not so sure but I appreciate your positivity
To answer your question, my status is still under review and no documents have been verified. What about you?

@emac542 - I interviewed on 10/17 and submitted my documents then. Received an update on DOCUMENTS/STATUS on 10/18 and every day afterwards as I uploaded more documents (Incomplete > Under Review > Incomplete > Under Review, currently).

My documents are VERIFIED but my status remains UNDER REVIEW. I did receive an email correspondence asking for clarification and the finance staffers stated the application is complete, updated but will remain “under review until notification day (10/31) should I be admitted to TFA.” So far, from what I gather, I’m the only case where Documents - OK; Status - NOT OK. This is very weird and troubling to me as well!

@somanybanelings My documents haven’t been verified, and I am Under Review.

I applied for TF around the 12th or so, but I didn’t upload my documents until the 16th. I interviewed on the 14th.

It feels like next Thursday is months from now.

Reading all of these posts is making me happy I didn’t apply for TF yet! On that note, does anyone know if NOT applying for TF is bad thing to do? AHH obsessing over so much right now. I was not invited to a final interview directly; I had to do a phone interview first. I have many friends who are now in the corps that did phone interviews first. For regional prefs, I did Boston first, and then I went all down the East Coast line (boston–>RI–>CT–>NYC–>Newark…so on and so forth). Anyone know how likely it is that we get our first choice prefs if we are admitted? Best wishes to everyone!

@emac452 I applied for TF on the 7th and Interviewed on the 14th.

@DianaDiamond, There is no part of me that feels like not applying for TF is a bad thing to do. You have plenty of time to do it. The only reason I could see why you might want to do it early is so that you can get award information prior to the acceptance deadline. If TF will be a factor in your acceptance, it would make sense to apply now.

I am nervous that mine says complete and several others have seen changes in documents verified but it still says under review, and you have been specifically told it will stay that way. Am I correct that mine is the only one that says complete? To me, that does not seem like a good sign. I looked through last years thread and at the 1/2DL there was one person who’s TF status changed to complete and he did not get in.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/internships-careers-employment/1383320-teach-america-2013-corps-15.html

I slept horribly last night, having nightmares about this. I dreamed that everyone got an e-mail saying that no TF would be changing and that maybe some had been changed by mistake but they were fixing it. I can’t belive I get to stress over this for 8 more days.

My TF status is now complete! It changed some time in last few hours because this morning it was still under review. I had my interview on the 14th and submitted my TF documents on the 18th. From the talk on this board and last years, I’m taking this as a good sign! Still keeping my fingers crossed! Can’t wait to officially hear back!

@klh034 @tinitafinish I am now panicking! I interviewed on the 14th, but didn’t get my documents all in until the 19th because I submitted the 2012/2013 fafsa at first. It looks like people who interviewed the first day (the 14th) are the ones whose are changing…and mine hasn’t. Definitely preparing for the worst now. But congratulations to you both!

@emac542 I wouldn’t worry. If you submitted yours a day later than I did, it makes sense that my status changed first. I would expect them to be reviewed in the order they were received. @Tinitafish said she submitted hers on the 7th (much earlier than I submitted mine) and hers changed before mine did even though we had the same interview date.

Don’t lose hope! I think we should all think positive. Remember that we all have a 50/50 chance…there’s no use convincing yourself that you’re either in or out until you know, right? We’ll cross that bridge when we get there! In the meantime, best wishes and tons of positive energy to all of you as we wait.

@emac542, it’s making me super nervous too that mine hasn’t changed yet either!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but TF and placement go together, as that all areas require different expenses. I’m sure each placement takes time (we’re all unique!), and if it didn’t, we would receive our acceptance/rejection notification this week instead of next.
