Teach for America 2015 Corps

@sleeplessgal101 what do you mean when you say you have three"yes" indicators??? Where do I look for these indicators you are speaking of???

I’ve never applied before, this is my first time. I meant that for each phase of admissions, I was receiving the notifications on my application alone, and not by email. I’m hoping it’s going to be the same tomorrow. I would not reapply to TFA again if I do not get this. I’m already applying to grad programs, and yes, my ultimate goal is to be a teacher no matter what. Many of the people I’ve met through this application process are using it for law school, but it is not something I thought of doing (but maybe think about later?). I have no idea about our recommendations but I know I have raving reviews from an elementary school teacher and a supervisor. I’m working in the school system now.

I’m hoping the nice things they said can help with their decision.

if i’m not accepted into tfa i’ll keep my same job and continue living in my same city but maybe get a fancier apartment! I’ve been pinching my pennies in case I get it and need to relocate. I’m very excited about the prospect of teaching and moving though, so perhaps i’d apply to The New Teacher project in the future.

I also applied 1 time before, when I was a senior in college. I went to the final interview but was not accepted. That was 5 years ago. The process has changed just a little. For one, I believe we only listed 3 cities we had interest in, but otherwise it’s very similar. Last time I was enthusiastic and prepared for an interview but not as prepared for TFA. I did not speak with the recruiters at my school or do as much research for tips. I’ve since read alot online about the process and ‘checking the right boxes’. Basically they implied that your interviewer was recording information and you had to indicate you met the ‘what we look for’ criteria, rather than just being qualified and enthusiastic. It makes sense… surely everyone in your final interview group seemed smart, thoughtful, and enthusiastic but we know statistically they aren’t all going to make it. I’m sure they were involved on campus and in volunteer groups and wanted to teach for the right reasons. I made an effort to hit the points from ‘what we look for’ in my interviews and also the ‘diversity statement’ in the group activity (which they flat out told us to use during the group and I was the only one in my group to pull it out). Last time my teaching sample was alot more style than substance. My visual aid was a little over the top. I saw some youtube videos that suggested that tfa looked for (at least in the past) that ‘I do, we do, you do’ method and i attempted to incorporate that into my lesson, and be very interactive. I personally had difficulty telling stories in the STAR format but I attempted to do that during my phone interview. I tried not to be too humble in my interview and brag on my self a little (as suggested in the online presentation). I’ve also been working with low-income persons in my current job and I went to a low-performing high school, so I tried to convey that my experiences ignited an enduring passion. I heard ‘grit’ mentioned as an intangible quality that seems to make for more successful TFA corp members, so I wanted to show that too.

I am still the same qualified and enthusiastic person I was before, but hopefully I was able to convey that I’m a good match for the program. I agree when they say they are transparent about what they look for, however i think it can be difficult to convey that you are a match. After all there was no short answer portion of the application that flat out asked you to list your leadership, commitment, etc.

I am nervous! As is everyone… If I don’t get it though I know I was prepared and tried my best! I think that if you don’t get an offer, don’t be too disappointed. I didn’t get an offer 5 years ago but I’ve since gone on to some really enriching career opportunities and I have found outlets for my passion and learned SO much. Keep in mind that it doesn’t mean you aren’t worthy or even that you wouldn’t thive in the program or in a career, but possibly that you didn’t hit enough points to get through the ‘big data’.

Best of luck to everyone!!!

I’m applying to CityYear right now, actually. I think it’s a great option for me, although my ultimate goal will remain to become an elementary school teacher.

@culb2015 I’m referring to the transitional funding page.If you applied for tf you have a list of documents you needed to submit. Then if they have been verified you get yes or n/a.

Thank you for sharing your experience @sleeplessgal101  That actually makes me feel a lot better. Whatever is meant to be, will be.

@ohheythere5 hmm no emails at all? are you checking spam? do they have your correct email? maybe your provider is filtering them. have you gotten surveys by email?

i’m sure its not a cause for concern just curious

@sleeplessgal101 Well I guess the good news is that they have to choose at least a couple of us out of this large discussion group. Good luck to everyone. No matter the decision , life will go on and the world will continue turn with or without Teach For America. I know I am not ready if I get the reject notice but I will just have to accept whatever happens. @sleeplessgal101 What are some of the CHECK BOXES you speak of???

@sleeplessgal101 I’ve received all other TFA emails (even surveys), just never ones stating that I moved on to a next round, I always had to find out through my online application. How weird, I wonder why. Now that you say it, I just checked my spam and nothing there.

K yall… forums usually share results in this format…

Please try to share even if you’re heartbroken! We’re all in this together. I have appreciated this little support group so much!

@sleeplessgal101 I just checked the transitional funding page and my status and I do not have neither N/A or YES. What do you think this means??? The page did however say that I successfully completed and submitted the application.

@culb2015

I meant figuratively letting them know that I met their criteria based on the ‘what we look for’ statements.

@culb2015 Anecdotally it may mean that it’s not the best news BUT who knows! Don’t lose hope yet! This deadline has been on a compressed timeline! SO i feel like it’s hard to compare with other deadlines with a longer timeline!! Also we are basing this off of information from this forum, where information could be inaccurate (intentionally or unintentionally). It’s not over until it’s over!

And those of us who have ‘yes’ are SURELY not counting our chickens before they hatch! It’ll all be clear tomorrow.

Okay so I hjust checked my transitional funding status and it is now UNDER REVIEW. Does anyone know what that means??? GOOD or BAD??? Has it been that people who had that status in the past have been accepted or rejected???

Mine says under review and I was told it would say that until notification day. I also have 2 YES. And 1 N/A. One of my documents with the YES has a comment beside it but it is a comment about a document that they questioned about and I had to clarify. I think everyone’s says Under review, but th documents have only been verified if they have Yes or n/a beside them. From what I have read, those that have had their documents verified were accepted with the exception of a few, so I am still nervous regardless of what my TF status is at this point. Like someone else said today in the past some applicants have had their documents verified the day of. @culb2015

I will be so happy when tomorrow gets here. Even though my TF status indicates that my documents have been verified, I am not going to celebrate just yet. Nothing is a sure thing until it is absouletly made evident.

I am actually very happy that I stumbled across this discussion board. I have found it to be very comforting and supportive. Just being able to talk to other people who are going through the same thing as me has been absouletly great!

Now, if tomorrow would just hurry along…

Repost Keep the survey alive! No matter what your outcome may be.
