Hey everyone! I applied back in April but didn’t but get in. I reapplied for the October round and got accepted to my first choice! Unfortunately I’ll be teach SpEd, which I’m really nervous about. I know that it’s going to be a lot of hard work and I don’t know how qualified I’ll be. But to those of you who didn’t get in my advice is to reapply (if it’s something that’s important to you) and try and see if you can figure out why you didn’t get in. FOr me it was my interview- we need to really make sure hate iur measurable outcomes come across. Reach out to me if you have any questions.
@cctfa321 Congratulations!! Good for you for not giving up!!
@cctfa that’s so awesome! Congrats! I worked with kids who have special needs at a community agency and had zero training or knowlege beforehand. If you’ve got a good heart, you’ll be just fine! You’ll learn along the way and your love for your kids will be what motivates you!
I’ve also been chosen to teach SPED, and am having a hard time choosing between grades 1-6, and 7-12. The certification exam requires a multi-subject test which involves math (ugh!). I know the math portion for grades 7-12 will be harder than 1-6, but I feel with a good amount of studying I’d be fine. Hmmm…what do you all think?
So how is everyone preparing to pass their certification test(s)? I’m teaching in Houston so I have to take 2 tests and pass them before I can even step into a classroom. One of these is general studies 4-8 and I’m so nervous about taking it since it involves math, english, science and social studies.
@morenarocx I studied for my Praxis exams with Quizlet decks and passed with a 179 on both! I needed a 134 and 155.
@hopefulbub Good for you!!! That’s wonderful to hear.
@morenarocx I am taking the OAE and feel wildly unprepared for it. I have bought study books, practice tests, and flash cards from Mometrix, created my own flash cards on Quizlet from the study books, and then bought additional practice tests from the Ohio Dept. of Education. I haven’t been doing too well on the practice tests and I’m fairly certain I will not pass the first time. I’m taking the Integrated Science test, so it covers Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Ecology, and Earth and Space Science. It’s just too much information to master in such a small amount of time, unfortunately.
@morenarocx I’m using Study.com, Prep Forward, and Khan Academy. I’ve dedicated 2.5 hours per night to studying (1 hour for the reading exam, one hour for the math exam, half an hour for the multisubject exam)
Hello Everyone
Does anyone else have decision day tomorrow? I interviewed in person two weeks ago and I am a nervous wreck. I dont know how I am going to make it through the day tomorrow.
I do! I’m so nervous. How did you think your interview went? I did mine virtually
I thought my interview went okay could have been better. I taught an English lesson on the difference in there, their, and they’re. I did the I do, we do, you do format. I dont know how I am going to make it through the day tomorrow.
I felt the same way! I taught an English lesson on similes. I did I do, you do, we do, too. Mine was the only lesson in my group that didn’t go over in time, so I think that was good. I’m nervous about the one on one interview though because I couldn’t get a read on my interviewer
I just want to know
I agree…there is alot riding on this decision. Its crazy we have to wait until 5PM tomorrow. That should be an 8AM email. I have a back up plan but TFA is my first choice. What regions did you guys ask for?
I applied during this time and am waiting on the decision today as well! I did my lesson on Newton’s laws of motion and I think it went well but you never know so I’m super nervous.
I am a nervous wreck! According to older post it really will be 4PM at the absolute earliest when we find out. I only got like 4 hours of sleep last night because I am so nervous about today’s results. I JUST WANT TO KNOW!!!
I also find out today, I’m so nervous and trying to adjust my expectations according to how selective TFA is
I’m super nervous. I also find out today. I did the in person interview with a chemistry lesson on converting moles-atoms. What regions are you hoping to get ?
I am hoping for Orlando, Jacksonville,Vegas, or Memphis. How about you?
I’m hoping for Dallas, Houston, or Memphis. I do have Orlando on my list tho.
