Teach for America and AmeriCorps

Question-

Can you do both Teach for America and AmeriCorps? I think so, but I would like to be sure.

This is what the website says:

AmeriCorps education awards
Teach For America is currently a member of AmeriCorps, the national service network. Through this relationship, our corps members who have not served previously as AmeriCorps members are eligible for the following AmeriCorps benefits:

•An education award of $4,725 at the end of each year of service (a total of $9,450 over the two years), which may be used toward future educational expenses or to repay qualified student loans.*
•Loan forbearance and interest payment on qualified student loans during their two years of service.

AmeriCorps funds a number of programs throughout the country. It sounds like TFA is one of those programs. If that’s the case, then being a TFA corps member means you are simultaneously an AmeriCorps corps member. Once you terminate your relationship with TFA, you are no longer an AmeriCorps member, but you can still join other AmeriCorps programs.

Yes, TFA is an AmeriCorps program at the moment (the affiliation has to get renewed each year). You can do both TFA and another AmeriCorps program one after another. One thing to note, though, is that you can only get so much as an education award, no matter how many years you’re in an Americorps program.

Yes. Also AmeriCorps can be done in a summer session in some places. I did this, but it should be noted that it counts as a full session in terms of your education award.
