My counselor that I really talked to a lot because a teacher and now I have a really grumpy crummy counselor. Could I still have my old counselor write me a reccomendation instead of my present one? I honestly cant stand the guy because he is so rude. And for the teacher reccomendation, can it be a teacher at the school who you didn't have as a teacher, but know through clubs and stuff who would write you one?

I would say NO to both of your questions. 1. Guidance counselor recommendations do not carry very much weight in the admissions department. The GC rec is mostly used to determine the weight of your transcript (the rigor of your schedule, etc). Their recommendation typically does not accurately portray many students (my GC is a first year GC who is responsible for over 500 kids, she can't possible know everyone.) 2. The teacher rec is used to determine who you are in the classroom (your passions, your intellect etc). If you use a teacher that did not have you in the classroom, the admission officer will not gain a picture of who you are in the classroom (could end up hurting you). HOpe my two cents helped.

Agreeing with disasterous, admissions knows that most counselors do not know every student well. Just give the forms to your official counselor, since he has your current information. I've heard that you should stay away from coaches and advisers for teacher recommendations, so 'no' to your second question as well. Pick a teacher from a class that you participated pretty well in.

wait so can i still use my old counselor that now is a teacher at the school????
