teacher/couselor recs?? How to I access them!?!?

I am applying to some schools and I know where the School Forms button is on the Common App website. it is like right under "Payments" and "supplements".

But when I click to get to the page all I see is the links for the PDF files, no links of the Colleges that I added!!!. I know you are supposed to be able to click the link of the college and fill out an electronic form to send emails to teachers for rec letters, but I can't access it!.

When I look at the details of each of My Colleges there are triangles on things like Supplement, and yellow squares for like Application, but there is no symbol next to the school form part. it simply says "offline". Does that mean it is still too early to send school form requests online? or does it mean that all my college require offline paperwork, because I highly doubt that...

help!

I believe that you’re supposed to access it on the My Colleges page, but I’m facing the same problem where every single school is offline. I’m guessing/hoping that it’s an error or just too soon because I really want to just do it online for my teachers…

Well, I asked Common App and here’s what I got:

Thank you for contacting the Support Team.

If the colleges the applicant is applying to shows the school froms as offline, then the offline procedures must be followed for each corresponding institution. No online option is available unless indicated.

Again, thank you for contacting us; please do so again if you need additional assistance with this incident.

Regards,
The Support Team

…so I guess not.

Djokovic,

Assuming you are not applying as a transfer student, there should be some text above the PDF links on the School Forms page.

“These school forms are available for completion electronically by your counselor through your school’s subscription to College Planner from Naviance.”

Counselors at high schools that use the Naviance software can still submit their forms online, they just do it through Naviance. Talk to your counselor and the teachers from whom you’ve requested recommendations and see if they can submit via Naviance.

MacGyver,

Yea that is exactly what is says above my pdf files! But my counselor told me that I could send email requests through COmmon app by myself… weird.

Morganc,

thanks for the help. The wierd thing is all my colleges are either Ivy league or other very top tier schools, so I’d expect that at least ONE of them would not be offline. But they all are!

So for most Ivy Leagues/private schools, I have to give each teacher a 1) a recommendation form from Common App, 2) stamped addressed envelopes to each college 3) resume ?

harvard, for example, allows you to submit its supplement online…why the difference for teacher recs? and you’re right that this seems to be the policy for many top-tier schools.

i know last year a lot of kids from my school applied to ivies with online recs…i have no idea why that can’t be the case this year.

bleh I’ll figure it out with my counselor. thanks for the help guys!

Djokovic has the best plan - talk to your counselor! The Common App allows two different options for submitting online recommendations, but it is configured by high school. If your high school uses Naviance, you will see a different School Forms page than another applicant who attends a high school that does not use Naviance.

Definitely read the instructions on the School Forms page, as well as on the Instructions page. That should get you pretty far. And talk to your counselor. He or she will help you understand what you should do.

There’s even a movie to watch! Woo hoo!

Good luck!

MacGyver

I just asked the GC straight up how she and the teachers preferred things to be. (She’s learned that my purpose is to make her life as stress free as possible when related to S’s applications.) She said she and the two teachers in question (as I expected) are on line, all the way. Yessss!

whoah, wait did i miss something? Ivy/private schools don’t do online recs?

is this for real? you’re stressing me out bro lol
