My teacher says he submitted his evaluation a couple of hours ago today, but it still doesn't say "submitted" in green on my school forms. Does it take time for the status to change, or is something wrong? What should I do? My deadline is in under 24 hours and I'm panicking...please help me!

Don’t panic! While colleges are strict about you adhering to your application deadline, they allow a grace period for teachers and counsellors as they’re aware of the volume of recommendations they’re asked to write. I’ve read on a number of college websites that they understand and accept late teacher evaluations. So don’t stress! It might just take a little while to register but even if it hasn’t gone through properly, teacher recommendations can be late. If it doesn’t register within a couple days, ask your teacher to try again or contact CommonApp support. Good luck!

^ What knsqd said. Don’t stress over teacher recs, colleges will tell you if they’re missing something and give you time to get it to them. They get that late teacher recs are usually the teachers’ fault and not the applicant’s. Good luck!

So if I’ve already submitted my application, can I still add recommendations if that one doesn’t go through for some reason?

I don’t believe you can add a teacher at this point, since you already submitted. Keep in mind that the systems are very clogged right now … students from all over the world are trying to hit the 12/31/2011 or 1/1/12 deadlines. Relax. If your teacher said they have done it, you are fine.

In the event that the teacher’s rec didn’t go through, they can try again when school starts again next week. Since you already submitted with the teacher’s name, the schools will be expecting it.
