<p>However, “staff” certainly doesn’t mean “incompetent.”</p>
<p>My Calc 1 instructor was a post-doc (technically, he’s a professor, though he only taught 1 section of basic math-- otherwise, he just does research); he was an amazing instructor.</p>
<p>Most will be GSIs. Don’t worry, they’re more than qualified to teach you the material, and for the most part, they do a great job.</p>
<p>As an aside, for some classes, it may give the instructor’s name-- that doesn’t ensure that they’re a professor. There are several types:
